I have a plant that has a limb growing straight out from the main trunk, My question is, If I make an air layer with the last node that is left on the tree with what I call the eye pointed up will that make the limb change to upward growth?

no question is a stupid question i was told almost 30 years back when first learning how to drive a train and to me same thing applies to figs if one does not know he ask.
Now here is my sincere problem

 i gotcha babe.
Yes if it pops it will grow upwards i have seen this on mine, looks kinda funny as imagine this.
All your limbs on main trunk are nice and horizontal then you have one nice horizontal limb but its 3/4 the size of all the others and near the end of that horizontal branch there is a stem going straight up toward the sky.

Thanks Martin,

I had saw where Herman had limbs like that!(going straight out sideways, then take a sharp turn upwards, I wanted to find out how he did that!
