Tonight was a great night for me. After driving through the rain for an hour I finally got to meet up with Charitup (Goss). At first I was just meeting up to get some fig plants from him but quickly found out that he is a member of this forum, such a small world! It was so great seeing all his plants. He was also nice enough to show me how he starts his cuttings to how he roots his plants in his plastic container mini greenhouses. He showed me many of his varieties and they all looked so lush and green and beautiful. I also got to meet his wonderful and friendly wife which I quickly found out doesn't like figs! I find that funny cause his place looks like a fig plant nursery. I originally only wanted a few varieties, 1 of which I wanted because it was on NewnanDawg's top 5 list and another because he commented it as "awesome", but Goss gave me many other plants! At the end of the evening I left with 7 different varieties: I'm so excited and very nervous about having these varieties. To me they are so rare that I dont want to mess anything up. I hope they grow into beautiful plants and I hope they branch a lot so I can soon share. The order of the varieties in the pictures from left to right: Gino's Black Violette de Bordeaux Vasilika Sika Adriatic JH 3013 Holly (Unknown) Marseilles Black VS Chi Ming Chao (Unknown) Thank You again so much Charitup!

David, you hit the jackpot. I have wanted to meet Goss myself. I have talked to a couple of times but just haven't been able to hook up. Enjoy your new figs.

David, It was very nice to meet you last evening. The plants are really tough and there is probably more killed by over thinking and tinkering with than neglect. If I were you I would up pot to about a 3-5 gallon pot as they are all ready for that I'm sure. Just use the dirt you said you were using already and add some of the mixture of perlite and vermiculite to it. If you are buying the dirt don't get the azalea dirt as it is more acidic. Just use the plain garden dirt like you said you were using. Others use other methods but that seems to work for me. You can sprinkle a small amount of fertilizer on the plants each month probably starting in March or April and I would probably stop with July if the plant is to winter outside. If you are taking them in for the winter which would probably be a good idea for another winter or 2 it should be o.k. to continue fertilize for an additional month. That said I generally stop fertilize in July and probably don't really add fertilize more than 2 or 3 times during the growing season. Another good way to kill a young plant is to push it to hard. Patience is your friend with most plants. Thanks for sharing the pictures and all the kind words. I just realized your forum name and wanted you to know that I have become a Savage fan in the last couple years so now we have a whole new topic of discussion. Here's hoping you live a blessed life and enjoy lot's of figs.

Yes, Goss is a wonderful person! Last summer he was generous enough to give me several small plants, two of which have already started fruiting this year. You got some great varieties!
