Being fairly busy this year but wanting to root a few cuttings, I tried a simpler method.

1. Buy chic-fil-a salads, eat salad, save container which is already vented.

2. When you have enough containers label each with a sharpie.

3. Make sure cuttings will fit in container.

4. Go to Lowes's and buy a bag of shredded peat moss.

5. Moisten peat moss and then squeeze all the water that you can out of it.

6. Completely bury cuttings in moistened peat moss in each container.

7. Place on a high shelf on upper floor of house.

8. Ignore for 2-3 weeks.

9. Transfer to cup.        
     

Common Sense is a good thing!  Congrats on your rooting!  Hovering is the worst thing for cuttings.  That's why I like to just stick em in the ground, ignore them, let the weather warm up, and watch them grow.  I never see a root, but I know.  When they go dormant, I move them to a 5 gallon pot to get big enough to go in-ground somewhere.

Sounds like a plan. Chick-Fil-A and Lowes are happy and the positive, besides a great rooting method, is that you chose a salad instead of the unhealthy. So these are the Scott 9 steps to rooting fig cuttings. Really looks great and nice variety. Congrats and good growing.

Yes, that's pretty much what I do, except I don't use peat moss. I use 100% perlite. It works great!

Scott - do you work for Chick-Fil-A or Lowes? Is this a plug? :) Awesome idea, very simple. Yesterday, I commandeered my kids' empty smoothie cups for cuttings. Anyone who enters my house can also tell which yogurt we eat...

I have had really excellent results with the rotisserie chicken containers  from Costco and  slightly dampened coco coir in the room with my hot water tank. Set it and forget it. I also buy the tupperware containers from the Dollar Store and those work great as well. Coco Coir is awesome !!

Great ideas! The best thing about reusing food containers is you can still recycle them when you are done.

I changed from Peat Moss to Coconut Coir, to me, it's a whole lot better! Does not get tangled in the cuttings root system as bad. : )
