Cutting Update!

Hey All - It's year 4 of my fig cutting efforts.  I've lost quite a few cuttings over time and I've tried a few methods, under a few conditions.  That being said, I'm now living down in Wilmington, NC and Spring is here!  My cuttings I've ordered from Harvey and BigBadBill I attempted to put directly to soil, but alas roots were not sprouting.  After a week of no success.  I then implemented the method of wrapping the cuttings in moist newspaper, putting them in a bag and leaving them in a closet for a little over a week...Voila!  Most of them put out roots and a bunch of them just put out buds.  I put all of them in pots and put fresh bags on them and then put them in a bin.  The weather will be highs in the low 70's and lows in the 50's.  Any advice or feedback on my progress is greatly appreciated.  Thanks all for your time and expertise!

Best,

Phil

The potted fig next to the bin of my cuttings is a Paradiso Gene, and it has a breba!

I have also had very good success wrapping the cuttings in moist paper towels or damp moss and putting them into a shoe box size closed lid container... The cuttings roots quickly and sometimes bud out as well; the trick with these is transitioning from the humidity bin and damp paper towels into rooting medium. I also use gallon size zip locks on the transition to cover the cuttings and add holes slowly to transition slowly to lower humidity.... My most notable success using this method is 3 out of 4 Martinenca Rimada cuttings now growing beautifully in 1 gallons.... BM and Figo Preto notable as not doing very well after the transition. Then again BM and Figo Preto have frustrated me on transitioning from any rooting medium into 1 gallons.... They just don't seem to grow well afterwards and either stall or just die outright....
