I think that it is better to find out what fig tree grow well in your area first.

I have 2 fig trees, One is 17 years now and bear with 1000+ small figs but not sweet, Another one is 5 years old, I bought it from Italian people and it bears 7-8 bebra figs@July but drop all 150+ main figs before ripen. ( I am not sure the problem, I think that I might water it too much).

I live in PNW where sun is weaker than many places, I bought 7 desert king fig tree at end of last year and hoping that it will give me reliable sweet figs this year.

I can not find any cutting easily here, in this spring, I will buy more fig trees from Nursery

- Osborne Prolific
- Vern brown turkey
- Peter honey
- Granthams Royal
- Korea persimmon - bigger, can eat anytime and very sweet even green color.

They are suitable for my weaker sun area, It is not as easy to get fig tree in Canada than in USA.

I think that people will tell you what fig tree suitable for your area for sweet fig in your area, I find a sweet brown turkey tree locally, I will get some cutting from that tree.

I grabbed some fresh cuttings from a local unknown tree down here in NC 8A that seems to be growing well.  If you want some I can send you 4 cuttings for $5.50 to cover shipping.  I dont know the variety but typically Brown Turkey, Celeste, and Peters Honey do well in this area so my guess would be its one of those.  I got permission to grab the cuttings but had never seen leaves or figs on it since I just found the tree.  PM me if interested.

Maybe knowing where "here" is would be a good start.

Careful Lou, might be out of country.

What is the hardiness zone? Which varieties have already been tried? Containers or in the ground? Do they freeze to the ground?

If you have not tried Hardy Chicago then that is the place to start, Lowes and HD will have them in the spring sometimes very cheap. It is early ripening and precocious so will give you the best chance at getting fruit before the end of the season. There are other varieties that are very similar or maybe the same and would serve you just as well, they get called Mt. Etna figs. They are also just about the most rain resistant figs there are, so they get the title of most reliable and are very tasty also. You can search for lists and more info.

It could also be that you already have a good variety for your area but maybe it does not get enough hours of sunlight and that is why only a few ripen...

keep trying, you might be able to get it.

I am in Canada, After trying month by month, I got small amount of fig cuttings , thanks for those nice guys, they are out there.

Also, It is spring time now, Nursery do have them soon, you might keep an eye there.

Growing fig tree is not easy task in my failing garden,  I did put it 15 yards of garden soil, and another  5 yards of  compost this month.

Wish that fig trees are as easy to grow as walnut trees, I dip out 5+ bady walnut trees from my garden every year.

You have been a member here since 2010 and you need to know which cuttings are good for your area?
