I posted this earlier under “What do you do when you have leaf growth before roots” but would appreciate some more suggestions.

“What if you get a little fig before there are leaves? Several of my cuttings show a little green bump and I thought it was sprouting. Today I checked it with a magnifying glass, and it's a little fig emerging, but there are no signs of any sprout bumps anywhere. No roots are showing through the cup. I have had both little figs and healthy sprouts on some of my other cuttings. I broke off the figs so more energy would go to the sprouts. But some little twigs have no other sprouting place to put its energy. Should I leave the figs on and hope a sprout develops from the node, then remove the fig? Thanks in advance.”

Richie suggested: “Like this!!! Lol. I ate mine i was told to take them off by most people but one person said it could cause cutting to bleed out. I will go check my cutting in pic above i took them off 3 days ago and put back in coir. I will get back with you.”

James suggested: “I cut them in half (or a bit more) with a sharp knife or razor.  The cutting will start to abort the fruit allowing a scab to form before it falls off.

I don’t have any other sprouting out going on with these cuttings so am hesitant to wound them with any “bleeding”. What do other people do?

Ditto to what James said.  There aren't enough roots to support figs.  Let the plant put it's energy into growing leaves and roots first.  There will be plenty of time for figs later.

As soon as they are big enough to pick off, do so. That simple.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I used a straight edge to cut off the little figs when possible and there was not any sap flow to note. Hopefully they will make roots next like Richard's did.
