Cuttings Reddish Bumps

I started my cuttings 11 days ago, wrapping tops in parafilm and sticking into damp ProMix HPCC. One started leafing out and the rest have swollen buds about to break, so against my better judgment pulled the cuttings to look at root development. Much to my dismay not a root to be seen. The only thing I saw was light brown reddish bumps on some of the cuttings. Does anyone know if those are initials? Unfortunately I didn't get a shot of them.

I made at least one error already possibly cooking the cuttings. I had a heat pad underneath for 2 days and when I checked soil temp it was around 92 F so I immediately pulled out the pad and am just keeping the cuttings around 70-75 F room temp.

The only positive is that when I pulled the cuttings they had no soft spots indicating rot. I've heard of cuttings rooting out in just 6 days, up to 16 for slower ones, up to 5+ weeks for really slow ones. Given the 10 varieties, I would have thought at least one would show initials.

Thanks, I will need one next season. Any suggestions as to current status?

Pics would help, but I can attest to having cuttings sit pat then 8 weeks later hearing the alarm bell and rooting/budding.

I wish I had taken pics. I am rather reluctant to pull the cuttings from the soil again for a photo though. Perhaps it's just me being impatient, but I would hope a plant with a rather large leaf coming out would have at least some root initials.

I found the below image via google image search and it shows what I saw. The middle cutting has one about an inch and a half from bottom (1/2 inch down from the node), and the right cutting has one about an inch from the bottom as well. Mine were all over though.

If they were mine, I would score the base a couple of times, brush on either dip n grow or clonex, repot and most importantly be patient. Seeing the parafilm has been removed, you may have to control the humidity with either a dome or a covered bin. See how they do on their own first though. It is going to take way more than eleven days to see any root growth. Anything rooting in a week or two, in my opinion, is a super rooter and a bit unusual.

Dave, just want to clarify the parafilm is still on the cuttings. I pulled them and put them back in, but didn't use dip n grow. Would it be suggested to pull them again today, dip n grow and put them back?

Livetaswim, since there is no roots on the cuttings right now, you won't be doing any damage by pulling today, scorning and brushing on the dip n grow. I would. It is good the parafilm is still on. In my opinion the key issue is patience once all is done. Also, I would rehydrate the pro mix as thought you are just starting out. Good luck!
