cuttings -wrong variety received over purchase. .

I purchased some cuttings last summer in the US. Being new to the fig world then, i did not realised that the varierty that I purchased is not what they are supposed to be. The seller admitted that it could be a mistake made by seller in the process of delivery. I live in Malaysia and the postal charge is high for seller to send replacement cuttings in which case seller refused to send.

My question - what is the normal way members in this forum deal with such case? if you have the experience.

Sorry to hear about your experience.
In your case, the upside is that at least you've got some figs. You could've ended up not only with the wrong variety but with non viable cuttings. Next time know your seller. Does he grow the figs or just flips cuttings for a profit, and what guarantees does he offer? I' m not sure about regulations and who might ship internationally, but there are many reputable sellers out there and with a little research, you could easily find out who they are.

Good Luck next time.

In malasya with all the fignatics there probably you can get the variety if you show the proof.

Also maybe through the seller you can create contacts he sold to in malasya and they could have the variety.

Hope you can get the varieties you want - its the real pain rather than money lost.

Paay the postage. Sometime seller do made mistake that they not do it on purpose. The seller want to replace it. You got 2 set of different variety for the price of 1 only postage extra

Recently I send 2 small & light packages of cuttings to a friend in Malaysia with tracking number and the cost is over
$100. I send a similar size package to another friend in Jan/Feb and it never got to destination without tracking no. and
the cost is just over $20. Perhaps the seller can send you the real deal with a few other variants to make it a happy ending.

The seller, as curtsy , should send you replacement.
Honesty and responsibility goes hand in hand in Fig World.
Good reputation is worth more than money. An honest seller know this.
You can bring out the name to the fig forums and let the people know about this person.
Good luck no matter what the outcome.

Sadly there are many unscrupulous sellers on ebay.  This one may not be, yet sounds as though they are.  Many people have paid $100.00 of more for one stick of brown turkey thinking it was Black Maderia, it is a sad truth about not investigating whom your buying from.  The scum of the earth ruin it for us all.

thank you all for your comments. i do agree that we make mistakes but we would be responsible for it too.

Scott, it is sad. we all love fig and there are many good people and very few that are unscrupulous.

Frank, i agree with you. i will let the seller see your comment and see how he will react to it.

@ Maznah -- Perhaps you can let forum members know what cuttings you were looking for and maybe someone
in Malaysia can help you.

How do you know they are the wrong cultivar? You say you are new, who has advised you of this? I'm sure you are aware some figs look a little different in color or size depending on conditions. What variety is this that you are claiming was fake?

Oy Vey !   LOL

richard, you knew exactly what you were doing in giving me those wrong cuttings. now you are accusing me of scamming. for the rest to know , we have people from malaysia buying cuttings through mail from the states upto now . Richard can sleep well while God is watching you?

Sorry Maznah, there is no license or certification to become a fig seller. If you bought cuttings from a new grower who acts as if they already know everything you should have expected problems.

Maznah, it is unfortunate that you feel that you got the wrong cuttings but I know the seller through dealings and reputation, and I am sure that if there was an error made it was not on purpose. The tone of your last comment is rude and uncalled for.

Hmmm.  I stand with Richie.  He doesn't have a dishonest bone in his body.

So... Richie admits he probably made a mistake and even had another variety in mind, just because that guess was wrong does not mean Maznah is running a scam. It means Richie is not sure of what he is sending out!

Cuttings purchased last summer.  Have they made figs?  I'll take Richie any day over a practical newbie who's majority of posts have been looking for cuttings.

Well Richie if you are being blackmailed, I apologize. But... if you think there was a mistake and want to make it right (without breaking the law) you should offer Maznah a refund. I don't see the point in Maznah blackmailing you for cuttings of a variety that she already has (if you sent the right variety and they grew).

Maznah, next time you can buy from local fig collector. I have been deal with many fig collector in US and most of them are very good. Even if they do make mistake with 1 or 2 varieties, they don't do it on purpose. You can deal in private and no need to open a thread in here. Friendship is worth than few bucks.

I have no problems buying from members. In fact I always get a few extra cuttings of varieties that I didn't order.

This issue has been worked out so i deleted all my post from this thread so we xan move on. Dont want to have bad feeling from people picking sides.
This is a great forum. Everyone is a friend and we should put this one behind us now.

"This is a great forum. Everyone is a friend ." Well said.

Richard insisted that i give him a US address to send the replacement cuttings. i do not stay in the US. Those in the US, please claim on my behalf 12 cuttings that cost me USD70 from Richard. Deal with him directly, postage should be free. We are all friends after all.
