A lot of people put emphasis on popular/exotic cultivars, which is great because it highlights some of the better fig varieties; however, I am most interested in the figs our members love regardless of pedigree.
Currently Growing: a bunch of varieties.

You are not alone...lol

Many people have been searching for the elusive Dall 'Osso for years.  No photo actually seen of this fig only an old painting.

At this time consensus seems to be that the fig was lost many years ago.

Have you gotten ripe fruit from it? If so do the two halves split in color like this?

And we're sure the two colors weren't an anomaly? What's the explanation for the single green fig on the bottom right?

What's going on in the ostiole end? Was this fig even edible?

It's hard to say.
This is the only real documentation we have of this particular fig. The color differentiation could just have to do with main and breba crops, this is just speculation though.
If he really had the real thing that would be a mind blowingly valuable find, sadly their are a lot of fakes out their so it's only natural to be skeptical. But until I see a ripe fig their's no way to be sure.

This way typed by phone so excuse my brevity and typing errors.

I wonder if this fig is just a mythical story?

The fig depicted in the painting looks like it has 2 large loquat seeds.   Fig seeds don't look like that..lol

Maybe someone was envisioning an ideal fruit 1/2 fig 1/2 loquat.
That sounds great to me since I love loquat also(i.e. nespole).

Trust me Pino, I know where you're coming from, Loquats are simply divine.

But the loquat seed shaped structures in the fig are likely just deformed ostioles.

It made be myth but I'm hoping it's out there.
