Dalmatie Brebas 2017

Hi,
I read the other day an awful article about Dalmatie. That article states that Dalmatie does not produce brebas. Well, mine has at least 30 for this year.
I've already fetched 14.
I thought it would be justice to Dalmatie to inform people that in fact, Dalmatie produces brebas.
My bigger Dalmatie tree has a foot-print of 2m*1m*2.5m of height.
I like their taste. It is sweet and soft, with some honey taste .
Dalmatie is a really good procuder of both brebas and main crop figs . It produces even more main crop figs. She's one of my workhorses .
Enjoy !

Thanks for posting about Dalmatie.

Whoever wrote that about Dalmatie either is talking nonsense or has a mislabelled tree,Dalmatie is known for its large brebas.

Looking very nice,I have a Dalmatie new this year, maybe figs next year,I am looking forward to a table of figs like yours.

Are the darker figs on the table the Dalmatie main crop(seems early?) or another variety?

Hi,
Dalmatie are the green yellow long ones.
I only have the brebas for now. Main crop figs will start ripening end of next month, normally.
The round darker ones are my ufti (unknown from the Italian gardener ) .

Nice looking figs, jdsfrance.

Here are my first Dalmatie Brebas on a potted young tree (they matured June 16 in my area). The tree doesn't have any main crop figs though. Maybe next year.

Great looking fig, Love this fig and when skin cracks like that.  They all look so ripe!

When I first got this fig I couldn't eat the whole fig had to share it.
It was so big and super sweet with strawberry jam taste.  Like eating jam out of a jar.  They key to the super taste is patience in waiting until it is fully ripe.

You are right, Pino.

I also love to see these cracks in the fig skin. They are also a sure giveaway that the fig is ripe.

My best tasting figs when they are fully ripe always show those skin cracks and hold promises of great flavor.

Hi,
I planted Dalmatie in 2016. Winter survived but dieback till ground. (balancing temperature in  winter 2016/2017 +1o Celsius -22 Celsius and in late march harsh hail and snow *SK, Bratislava_west suburb)
In this momment is fully recovered.
Seems Dalmatie produce first crop after it has been  planted and of course in good condition after 3-4 y?)

Well, i retry to post.

This variety is very productive, both in brebas and maincrop.
My small plant produced about 10 brebas in june, now is ripening the main crop.
The main crop is as big as the breba and, i hope, more sweet and tasty.
I love the leaves with 7 deep lobes, they are among my favorites.

In the pictures are shown the brebas:

Fico,
that's an interesting bug that you were able to insert photos in jdsfrance's topic post what did you use for the posting(iPhone, IE, Chrome..?)

Curious if you know what other names Dalmatie goes by in Italy?

Yes, it's an annoying bug.
Now i'm using Chrome with my phone, but i had problems also with my PC using Firefox.
This is one of the reasons i don't often post, i'd like to talk and share infos and pics, but i always find obstacles when i try to post something here.
The other reason is obviously my poor english!

I know that in Northern Italy (Lombardia, Trentino, Veneto) this variety is widespread; i don't know all the synonyms but i remember fico 'San Piero' and fico 'della Madonna'.

Thanks Fico!  You're English is fine!

That's very curious that you tried to post a reply and ended up editing someone else's original post.  Sounds like a security issue on the server.  Should let Jon know.  Your photos are still showing in jdsfrance's initial post.

Thanks for the Dalmatie synonyms!
I knew of fico della maddona but I thought San Piero was a Brunswick synonym.  (looks like Dalmatie ibut the skin is dark (bronze/brown).

Thanks Pino,

these synonyms can be applied to several varieties of figs, and also other varieties of fruits.

I didn't know that San Piero was a synonym of Brunswick, i have a Brunswick but it's very similar to my Lungo del Portogallo, take a look on my topic about LdP and let's discuss about it.
