Dauphine

Hi everybody
I have a dauphine hibernating with 3 figs pea size on this years wood.
Do you know if I should break off or, if I leave them alone will they become breba on the branches next season?
Thank you for the suggestions.

I have sixty quarter size figs on my CDDG. LEAVING THEM ON TO SEE,WHAT HAPPENS. THEY ARE,STILL GREEN AND HARD.

Thanks Richie.
Is CDDG a St Pedro type like Dauphine or is it a common type?

It doesn't matter what you do.  They'll eventually fall off.  Ripening is unlikely.  CdDG is a common fig.  Richie has a whole different climate and they're still not likely to ripen after seeing 31 degrees.  But in his area I'd leave them on, too.  I'd cover the tree with christmas lights, a blanket and a tarp for cold spells, and the same minus the blanket any time the temperature is supposed to be under 75.

Thank you for the answer rcantor.
It is clear now.

Dauphine is not a San Pedro type. it bears two crops.

Like that idea bob. Going to try to save my banana tree. Great idea

Yes it does but the way I understood it, the main crop needs a wasp and I do not have it here.
Only the breba make it I was told.

Hi,
There is a strain called "Grise de Tarascon" that some say is a synonym for Dauphine... This one is a San Pedro - at least so far here in my garden.
That one is sometimes sold here at nurseries (seen it once LOL) .
There is another Dauphine that is of the common type, and is raised at the nearby botanical garden.

Dauphine meaning "that belongs to the son of the king" ... I can understand that lots of sellers wanted to have a fig strain labeled like that, or in other words, that every gardener selling a fig-tree to the former kings, would label it Dauphine if the king was to like and keep it in his own gardens ...
That could mean that there are some bunch of strains going by that name, even though, because those strains belonged to the kings, at some point most of them got decapitated so to say (weeded ) at the time of the French Revolution) ...

Raise your Dauphine and post pics when time comes, and we can compare our trees and see if they are the same.
Mine was labeled "Grise de Tarascon" - But on his site, Bauds states that this is a synonym for "Dauphine".
And as I wrote, it can't be at least so far. The figs on my tree are pear-shaped and Grey is behaves like a San Pedro, where the other Dauphine has dark roundish flattish fruits is has both crops here in my Zone7.

Hi jdsfrance
Thank you for the imput.
When they will fruit, I will post pics of the leaves and fruit to compare with yours.
I'm convinced it's a St Pedro type because, the fruits this year fell off even though the small tree was growing nicely and going full blast.
Usually my other figs are green until they start swelling, the dauphine main crop ones had a red tinge to them even if they were small.
As you can see ,even if they are small they came out with a redish color.
This is a  photo from this summer
Will post un update on it next season.
