Della Signora, Della Monaca?

http://www.battistinivivai.com/sito/home_page/prodotti/fruttiferi/piccoli_frutti/fico/fico_della_signora

Has anyone ever heard of this? Is it actually a COL DI SIGNORA NERAL or another Col De Dame?

It sounds good....and I don't even speak Italian.

:P

Aaron, Della Signura, which is a white fig, has honey interior where Della Monaca is a semi-dark fig with reddish interior.
Once I was commented on my WishList DELLA SIGNURA and was told it is De La Senyora which is in US already... i don't know...
oh, it's Dame Col outside!

Fico “della Signura”
Sinonimi: “Della Monaca”

Anyone speak Italian?

Fig "of Signura"
Synonyms: "Della Monaca"
Epidermis-violet light green, with purple ribs alive; darker the most exposed to the sun. Thin longitudinal cracks will run through the surface to maturity which takes place in August.
Sized  medium-small, delicate flavor and fresh, red-orange flesh is not grainy. Excellent for fresh consumption.

Il Italiano e il amore

would love a cutting, anyone?

Here, knock yourselves out!
I wish I knew Italian, but at least I can still see well, LOL

Does this description talking about the same "de la signora'?

Medium vigorous tree, trilobal leaves 60%, whole 40%, with shallow interlobular space. The early figs ripen from 30/06 to 15/07, are tapered, long neck, ostiole closed, average weight 90/100 gr. Redskin or purple, light pink color pulp, juicy, medium firm, very fine from which it derives its name. The figs ripen from 20/08 to 20/10 and are similar to the early figs with an average weight of 65 gr. Excellent resistance to handling, suitable for local consumption.

I have one bought with this name from local nursery, started producing main crop after I tried pinching in August, or mere coincidence. Figlets are already the size of cherries and are slightly variegated. I can post pictures if you guys want to see them. The name is Della Signora, and one italian regional dialect calls it Della Signura.

I have a Della Signora plant. It is only young so I can't confirm taste, etc. It did get some figlets earlier this year which I removed because it was only small. It is growing strongly now and, hopefully, will fruit next year. The description given was this: "Dark pink to violet skin colour, with red flesh. Another cold tolerant, large fruited variety, it can fruit 1-2 times per year. Fruit size can reach 80-100g with light red flesh."

I bought it from Jurassic Plants on ebay:

Interesting, all italian websites i found stated that it has only main crop.

Are there multiple varieties with the same name?

The label on my fig says it is the red/violet-colored type.

Here are the links I found. Some have one of the photos, some the other. Another recent topic is about 'Della Sinyora' which seems to be the Spanish naming of this variety.

this site says "Varietà unifera, con produzione di soli fòrniti." basically single crop, main only.

the italian wikipedia site for figs has the names of the different crops

fioroni = breba crop on last year's growth
forniti = main crop
cimaruoli = late fall third crop

And here is how the figs look on my tree:

Maybe two crops in an ideal, hot climate - not Scotland for sure! Your plant looks healthy. It will be interesting to see and hear about the fruit when it ripens.

Don't expect a real picture from an italian nursery. They put random pics on their websites (often taken from fora or other websites), and put haphazardly labels on plants for sale.
I saw the same picture on 3 websites, for 3 different varieties.

There may be more than one 'della signora',
but the variety on sale should be unifere, with green-violet skin.

From reading Condit's descriptions my understanding is that Col di Signora is CdD Blanc.

The other Signora (Monaca) is unifera (main crop only )and as described by Condit below;

Signora
(syn. Monaca at Brindisi). Described and figured by Vallese (1909) as a variety confused with Dottato Rosso in some localities; described in detail by Donno (1952). Tree moderately large; leaves 3- to 5-lobed; buds and branches described by Donno (1951a). Breba crop none. Second-crop figs turbinate to obovate, with short, thick neck; stalk short; ribs fairly prominent; eye open, scales violet; skin checking at maturity; color obscure violet or almost black on the body, to yellowish rose toward the stalk; pulp pale red, very sweet; seeds few; quality excellent, both fresh and dried.

I have Fico Della Signora with 4 figs on it so hope to see if it is as described by Condit soon.

This is interesting, being a newbie I had assumed that all figs had a breba and a maincrop. I thought that some varieties had few breba or poor quality but never knew that some had none at all.
