I have a one year old tree that is supposed to be a Dr Monticello,but it sure does look like a celeste with all of its leaves being three lobed. This was bought from a nursery well known to this forum. Does anyone who has this fig have any input as to the possibility that this is really what it is supposed to be,or is it another example of a careless vendor?

The list of careless vendors is almost as long as the list of commercial vendors.... Mistakes do happen but some online sellers make a habit of it... Ty Ty anyone? Generally speaking a trusted online vendor is a good starting point but certainty of cultivar authenticity is only achieved after growing full maturity and eating of the resulting fruit.... Most members of the forums will not, therefore, sell cuttings as being a particular variety until they have fruited and sampled a tree they are growing...

 I'm trying to be charitable when I refer to these vendors  as careless. It isn't just Ty Ty it seems,as over the years I have been disappointed numerous times by some of the most respected online nurseries. For example,I am trying for the third time to get a Giombo persimmon tree. Sometimes I think that they figure that by the time the tree starts producing, years will have passed,and the customer will not have the temerity to raise hell about it

Which one have you got?  Several postings on the Monticello fig some show a dark fig others a light that looks like Marseilles White.

Also keep in mind leaves can be variable could show 3 lobes now but may have 5 lobes as tree matures.

For persimmons, I usually go to "England's Orchard" although I do not know if they grow and sell Giombo... Cliff at England's is very good....

This one is supposed to be a large dark fig. What concerns me is that I've only seen one photo that someone posted some time ago,and the leaves looked nothing like what mine does at this point. The only reason that I have any hope at all is that I know that immature trees often display very different leaf forms from mature trees. That being said,here in Louisiana celeste trees are everywhere,so I am very familiar with them,and this one is showing too many characteristics of the celeste to suit me. It make me feel like a chump when someone assumes that I'm too ignorant to know  the difference,and I'll be none the wiser.

I'll make a note of your recommendation. The problem here is that I'm getting along in age,and it's getting to the point that it's a little late to start over. As I've said I have my third attempt that I'll putting into the ground as soon weather conditions permit. If this isn't it,well I tried.

I recall now that pawpawbill sent out cuttings some time back,and I may pm him to see about getting a cutting or two from him

Almost eden nursery carries this variety, not always in stock. It is a good fig, large and black, red growing buds.
I lost mine but plan to get another.
