Dried fruit beetle

I have discovered this bug in my figs. Never before did I encounter this problem. Luckily it avoids certain varieties and those with closed eyes.
How do other fig growers deal with this pest? Thank you.

I've had problems with them in the past on my tree, a Celeste, with closed/small eyes. No problems this year with the DFB. As you probably know one standard recommendation is sanitation, but that does nothing for the immediate problem.

When trees are dormant but waking up i spray a strong insecticide on all branches and soil. Then two weeks later i spray a liquid copper fungicide for rust. This helps out with lots of problems b4 they start. For rust copper powder mixed yourself works the best.

Richie< thank you for your reply. Can you share the name of the  insecticide that you use on your dormant trees? Have you had problems with the dried fruit beetle? Does this spray process help?

Hi Richie,
You probably already know that copper is not good for human beings. So building a high copper content in your dirt is not a good idea. Use that with caution.
Long story short: Copper once in your body will get in the brain and won't be released ...in the long run, that will prevent the brain to work properly and, no, it is no fun to be made about such a situation (senile state).
Well, just for your information, in case you thought that copper being a natural element, then  it can't be harmful to you.
As always, the dose makes the poison - using a bit and not a lot has "no visible side effect".

That is true in a way, too much is toxic, although also is not enough. We need copper to live. You can even take supplements to make sure you have enough. Always check out facts yourself, as many post false information.
