Im thinking about splitting an order from Durio nursery with my brother so we can get some varieties not found 'round here (well, that'd be almost every variety, as all that most nurseries carry in these parts are Brown Turkey and Celeste). On the Durio website Im confused about how they list their trees. For example, Negronne is listed - followed by a bracket that also states Petit Negri and VdB. Its my understanding that each of these three are distinct varieties, correct? Just a little confused. Im new to this stuff and the sheer variety is a bit intimidating. Anyone know how they list their trees? Are the ones in brackets simply types that are similar to the one that is listed? Thanks, James

He and some others thinks they're synonyms, some others think they're not. Petite Negri is probably different from what I've heard. There are similarities. Of course there are similarities among all varieties of Ficus carica so some of it will depend where you fall on the lumper/splitter spectrum.

For now I intend to treat the synonyms as the same fig. I've got VDB, and if Negronne and Petit Negri aren't the same, they are obviously close enough that I'm not going to get the diversity I'm wanting for now, to add them. Same with the Verte, Ischia, Strawberry thing, and others. regards, bill o.

James before you place an order please call Dalton Durio. I had a friend stop in there a month back on a Saturday on got to talk to Dalton face to face. My friend wanted to buy a couple of varieties but Dalton said he had none for sale. He was way behind in his work as he's been doing landscaping work out of town. My friend said the place looked a little run down and weed infested. I hope he get it back on track for he's such a nice guy to work with. If you do get in touch with him please let us know the outcome. The trees I've gotten from him were always very good. "gene"

Thanks, Y'all, for the replies. Gene, I was thinking about placing the order in the fall -- thanks for the heads-up. When I order Ill be sure to call him to talk.
