lordv08 is an E-Bay seller selling green tip cuttings the seller has now pulled there listing. However there is a new listing under the E-Bay seller wendi2604U using the same information and pictures as the first seller. It is the first seller using a different account. The new listing does say they are green with leaves. The original posting did not say green leaves and tips.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fig-Tree-Cuttings-5-/280729591225?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item415cc99db9 Al Southern NJ Z 6

I see what you are saying, the first one doesn't say they are green with leaves but it does say they are fresh cut when you order and it is summer. Maybe they got some complaints and changed it and it may have not been clear but I'm not sure that is fraudulent. And she does say that the other listing was her husband. Now they could be total ripoffs I don't know I have never dealt with them but from what I have read it wouldn't concern me too much

I do not see anything fraudulent or misleading about lordv08's ad. He is making no false claims or representations. The ad leaves much to the imaginaton, but it is honest.

The only thing I notice is the first auction which is now closed was for 12 cuttings and the second auction is for only 5.

There were two offerings- 1 for 5 and 1 for 12- The 12 was for about 2 dollars more. To tell you the truth price was good but I have no idea what I would do with 12.

I have those cuttings...the 12-item listing....and they sent more than 20. A variety of soft, green cuttings--with small leaves and a few baby figlets, then some lignified wood--no leaves, a few baby figlets, then some hardwood--no leaves, no figlets. SO, I am trying Dan's method with some, then have some buried horizontally, and others are rooting vertically. A few of the hardwood arrived with fine, brown roots are the nodes. Being so new to fig-world, I don't know why there would be fine, brown roots at a single node unless that area was covered or close to the ground?? Anyway....maybe this time next year between Olga, Dom and myself and F4F we can figure out what cultivar this is.

I just looked at the listing. She said it is a yellowish, green when ripe with a pink interior. But I have heard there is a 'Black' Genoa as well, but have not seen it.
Olga
As far as favorites- Too soon to say, they are young- 1 to 3 years- But I am seeing a few that may be discarded sooner due to growing pains
As far as number: Lets just say 25 to 50 plus :-)

I got the reverse interpretation. Here the listing in quotes about the fig" Meat of fig is light to dark pink. Skin is yellow /greenish when ripe. "

I received the cuttings today. There was 7 instead of 5 which was nice. But boy were they short. Most only had 2 nodes. So I'm trying to root several ways in soil.

I assumed the standard for All types of wood was 6 to 8 inches. I was just surprised since all the cuttings I have received before have been quite a bit larger. I am not too worried about the rooting aspect since the majority was lignifing already.
I'm treating them like any other cutting.

My update: These were all short, only 2 nodes. I was able to get a few to root, and leaf out, but in a matter of hours every leaf drooped and fell off the plant. Had not been showing ANY signs of stress, and plants were inspected every single day. Thought maybe it was just a strange dormancy, but even the wood shriveled up and died off. Would be most interested in a plant if anyone has an extra.

Big fat thumbs down. I should have stored them, then rooted with the my others in sphagnum moss.
I was impatient and careless.

I bought 12 cuttings ,all 6 to 8 in and they thought they were geonia. I got them because they were cheep and I had never done a hardwood fig cutting before and thought if I messed up I was not out much. Out of the 12 cuttings I have lost one and 2 others have droped there leaves. The others drop a leaf now and then but keep going. I put them in compost that i got to wet.I have potted one up so far and its doing well.I got the cuttings about 8 weeks ago. Rex

Wow, this is very interesting and educational. To think, that my wife and I are being studied like this. We have improved our methods, learned the ropes, and have tried our best to please all of our customers. We have learned a lot, and we consider ourselves part of the fig growing community. Thanks to all that defended us in this post. Randy (the husband) and Wendi (the wife) LOL.

Alan, Many of the ones who have good reputations only need to post the variety they are selling. People as in Bass at Trees For Joy I do not even question as his true descriptions have never been wrong. Just recently got a RDB on ebay from his and was exactly what I was expecting. Bass also spends quality time in setting up the package for shipping and secures the pot and plant in place. I do not need an extra plant I did not ask for to make me happy when doing an order. I do agree with Bass's policies in giving away trees to repeat buyers and friends. To date I have sold maybe three trees as the rest have been traded or given away.

I don't know how practical it would be but might I suggest a listing of ebay sellers (maybe in a new topic) that members have dealt with in the past and had great results from? Obviously An ebay seller should not or could not rate him or herself as a great honest seller(This will have to be done by others.) This tool would make it great for a newbie like me who still doesn't know you guys and gals yet and also give us a list of reputable people for us newbies that we can trust. Just a suggestion.

Looks exactly like my trees leaves and fruit. Genoa for sure. Got 12 other varieties that we can discuss some other time, once we have finished our judgment of how legit and honest you all think we are. Starting to feel like we are on trial. You can look at our scores and feed back. If that's not enough, don't buy. Thought we would be met with open arms.

I bought a rooted Genoa White on eBay from Wendi at the beginning of the summer. It had a problem and I wrote to Wendi about it. She made good and sent me another rooted cutting (Genoa White I hope) and that cutting is now budding. She shipped it with no additional postage charge and I think they should be commended for that. I will update when it gets bigger and has some fruit, hopefully next summer. It is potted and will go into my garage for the winter. This is it today. Coop Zone 7a Northern NJInline image

I also bought cuttings from Wendy. I put 4 of them in a Ziploc and 3 outside right into small pots and they are all rooting now and very fast. I though it was a great deal for around $10 shipping included.

$10 for several cuttings including shipping is okay. $119 for a rooted 2" cutting with $20 shipping is not. This thread is well over a year old and the seller only registered yesterday. Seems to be quite a fig enthusiast. Well maybe not.

All though the Genoa fig is not rare, a 2 inch in diameter 8 inches long fully rooted cutting is. It has more then 3 years of growth. I'm am trying to determine the value of this. I have continued to drop the price until I get a bit. Your opinion is appreciated.

When I removed the cuttings, the branches are usual over fifteen feet tall. This was an experiment when I started. Now I have about 5. These cuttings explode into trees. Its like cutting back a big tree, the following year it takes off like a rocket. This is not the same as a less then 1/2 cutting.

Please do not assume that there is no difference. Have you or anyone you know ever rooted a cutting of this size? Please be honest. I have, and the results are stunning. It only make sense, bigger roots=more energy and nutrients pushed upward. If I don't sell, I will ether adjust the price or plant it myself. Thanks again for the feedback.

I want to give credit where credit's due. I just looked into my Ebay purchase history and the 10 Genoa woody cuttings for $9.99 I bought are from Wendi. They created 14 or 15 very healthy plants. I will buy from her again without hesitation. I think Wendy handled the scrutiny elegantly. Soni

I think the bottom line is...if you aren't positive about the identification and haven't had it DNA tested you should continue how you started suggesting it "may be" Genoa.

I'm not posting to comment on the Ebay Seller (we have had no transactions). I just wanted to add to Alan's comment. If the known variety and the unknown are grown side by side, and started at around the same time, the differences or similarities would be evident within the 1st or 2nd year (season). It would not require several years.

Okay, so we have had "multiple" customers outside of this forum audience that have confirmed this tree as a Genoa. For some time we were unsure. Do you have the DNA of every fig you have possessed, purchased or sold tested? Doubt it. I have explained the characteristics of this tree over and over again. I have provided pictures and sold cuttings to fig enthusiast for years all over the country. This is our conclusion just short of a DNA test. Our customers thus far have been pleased and very helpful. In the end that is what's most important to us.

You still don't "KNOW" it's a genoa hence falsely advertising. You could put that it has been possibly identified or something of that nature. We're not talking about a rare fig here so it's not like you're out to make millions and I get that but I still hold my opinion on the side of the truth in advertising.

Because of the size of cuttings I sent you, I had to use a large set of loppers. They were hard from me to cut. I always try to throw extras in when I can. We will work on improving our cutting process. Maybe I'll let Randy cut the big ones next time. Hope they all root for you. Oh, I also wanted to share that we just moved (2)Papa Johns, (1)LSU Black, (2)LSU Purples, (2)Almas, (2)Ischia Greens, (2)O'Rourke's, (1)Magnolia, and (1) Marseille from one gallon pots to five gallon pots today. We had these over a year in the one gallon pots and they were defiantly ready for some room to grow. Exited
