Exporting cuttings

I have been contacted by a person in Malaysia who wants to buy cuttings from me. I was told by someone that I need a permit, but the "customer" says he has been receiving cuttings from the US for years with no problems.

Makes me wonder if those who sent him cuttings did it illegally or what. Do I need a permit?

My listing ends in a few days (TOMORROW, actually!), so any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Jim

Hey Jim, you for sure have to get a permit! You are looking at getting in very serious trouble by doing this! I think the best thing for you to do is NOT sell or send any plants outside US.  Almost all of us here get these kind of messages from foreign members!

Thanks, FrankAllem -- I have shipped stuff all over the world, but it wasn't live / agricultural, so I just wanted to be sure.  My listing does say NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING, but the guy asked any way.

Usda is following ebay 100% of the time. Safer to do side deals or even not at all. But i know good many people that send there but not on ebay.

Great, but my question is about legality.

Harvey and GreenFin has literally everything... And they have permit also... Encourage non-US members buy from them...

Search for other posts on this subject, there are probably 50 posts that have asked this same question with all the information that you need
In a nut shell:
Your question about legality: It is illegal
Your answer to those who ask: No

Roger that. Thanks very much to all who responded.
I told the gentleman that, as a Christian, I would not break the law, that if he had a US agent or friend who wanted to buy them from me, that I would ship to him/her. Once they were out of my hands (as Sgt, Schultz said so eloquently) "I know NUSS-ING!"

They don't have everything lol, but they have a lot. There are over 1200 fig varieties from what I've read and just counting members lists and eBay varieties that I could trace this summer (had to stop got busy) I hit nearly 700. Mist of those are available in u.s. now as I am sure countless others are and will continue to be as well.

Luckily for some of us "FOREIGN MEMBERS" living in the Europe are fortunate enough to get hold of some real deals . I think part of the issue is the eBay listing itself. I have seen many US listings on English eBay and it also allow us to bid on them. So I suggest you change the eBay settings to avoid further trouble from fig enthusiasts . Not everybody read the description!
