Some fig fruits have distinct ribs while others are smooth on the surface. It may be just my own observation that most varieties with ribbed fruits are relatively late ripening. Any half truth to it; and what is your observation?

Hi Akram, I had found a Ribbed, Yellow fig, as it ripens it somehow loses the course ribs... does this qualify for your criteria? Ripened from June to beginning of October, by November there were no figs on it. Here's pics of it when green and coarsely ribbed and then ripe ones with much less ribs, you decide.

Here are some of the Figs, that a lot of forum members have heard about, that have ribs and they come in different colors. .Santa Cruz Dark-Red ribs and resembles "Giant Amber" .Alma-Purple ribs .Karayaprak-Orange ribs .184-15s-Orange ribs .Conadria (DFIC 5)-Yellow ribs .Capri Q-Orange ribs .Capri S-Prominent ribs (I think it's a green Male Flower and ribs) I hope this was informative :) I'll add ripening times later when I find the list

Thanks Aaron. I will watch next year and make a list of fig fruits with distinct ribs and ripening time for the main crop. If I recall correctly, Bassiri and Maltese Falcon showed ribs. I do not recall Conadria had ribs but may be I did not pay attention.

Igor, your Alma definitely has ribs, I don't know many...I pulled my UCDavis sheets and found these varieties with ribs and rib colors, which are really helpful identifying factors.

I found this post from 2011 that shows one of the most unusual figs I have ever seen...yellowish skin with red-striped ribs...
http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/check-out-my-red-fig-5426662?pid=1269832191#post1269832191
Also, "unknown pastiliere" on the figs 4 fun varietal page shows a lot of rib
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Wow nice pics guys.
Igor, your Conadria look very smooth indeed but check out the Conadria pics at the Willis orchard site. The look kinda ribbed!
Francisco what an impressive looking tree and fruit! Do You have a photo of the interior? Does the main crop fruit look different? Thanks for sharing!

Pied de Boeuf has very prominent ribs. I've tried several times to turn one into a wife without success.

Well maybe it is a misidentification case which happens very often with figs or the fact that Conadria is a hybrid allows it to look like either one of the parent trees according to growing conditions( heat, humidity, amount of sunlight etc.) I ran a Google search and it came up with all kinds of pics claiming to be Conadria figs that have very significant variations. I d like to grow a verified Conadria so I can report on the darn ribs with better accuracy ,lol!

OttawanZ5, Italian Honey aka Lattarula is usually easily identified by its ribbed exterior, but it is one of the earliest cultivars... Some cultivars have visible ribs when green and the ribs fade as the figs develop. In my observations there has been no connection between ribbed figs and late ripening.

I already did post some. Try the Search function... it's a good tool to learn about for this forum. Maybe you already used it, but the answer is: no I can't post any more pics of it at the moment. I posted lots of pics of this variety in Nelson's thread, my thread, maybe others. If you search on Conadria within this forum site you'll find lots of photos. (And much to my chagrin, my own pictures look like "ribs" are present, at least on the ripe fruit... but I'm not so sure they were visible on the unripe fruit... not trusting memory). Pete, I agree with your observations too. (All of them in #17). Also, some figs seem to have no obvious ribs when unripe, but show them a bit more when ripe. I'll add that "ribs" (or not) seems to be poorly defined. It seems that some sort of structure like this may be an inherent quality of the way that these syconia form. Mike
