Hi,
Hope everyone is enjoying some figs!
Does anyone want to take a shot at identifying my family's tree?
It's a black fig from Brooklyn. It's very hard, surviving many Brooklyn winters without protection. They have not rippened as dark as usual, this yr in my pots in NJ as it has been unusually cool.
In the pic of my pots lined up, this tree is the 2nd and 3rd from the left (both from cuttings, 3 yrs old). That pic was taken in mid June. It has insane growth from then, including a 10ft tall whip. For reference, the 1st tree on the left is hardy Chicago, the 4th is my family's Sicilian white and the last on the right is Negronne.
The figs have a berry and a slight fig taste. When they aren't 100% ripe, they can have a little melon taste.
The leaves are massive and generally have the 2 patterns I pictured. They are very food producers. Each has 100+ figs on them.
With the massive growth, I will need to cut then back this yr or in the spring. I will be sure to share cuttings on here, especially with anyone that can ID them.
Thanks!
Anthony
