I am glad that I found this forum. For all you fig experts out there, would you give me an idea on what figs to grow in zone 9a. I would like  a nice producer plant with   tasty fruits. Thanks and I am looking forward to learn from you all.

What would be your top five?

Welcome to the forum. I live out in Banning CA. I'm in zone 8b and have only been growing figs for about a year except for a couple of nursery tree's.  What made you interested in figs?  I had never eaten one until just a few years ago and there was no turning back.  Lots of nice folks here. If you can state what city you are in or near, you might find some forum members near you. There are a few pitfalls when growing your first figs from cuttings but read through the blogs to avoid the worst of it. There are a few good nurseries out there as well if you want to be in the figs by next summer. If I had to do it again I would have passed on brown turkey but they do produce well.  Again welcome to the forum. Noel  

Welcome to the forum!  In 9B you can grow almost anything.  Consider Col de Dame Gris, Black Madeira, Ronde de Bordeau, Desert King or any other breba fig and JH Adriatic.  There are hundreds to choose from, though.

I always love gardening but I lived in the city before and the yard was very small for anything. I recently moved to Porterville for a new job, I now have a couple of acres :). I have been trying to add some fruit trees to my garden, figs caught my attention since it performs well in hot climate. Besides, I love the look of the plant. I tasted black mission fig from the store for the first time, I like it but think it would taste a lot better if it is home grown. I ordered 2 little fig plants on EBay, Desert King and VbD. I don't think I want to grow a dozen of fig plants, therefore I try to be very selective about it. What is the best online site for buying cuttings or plants?

Check out a couple of local nurseries before you buy more. You should be able to pick up 3 gallon trees for $20-$25. Many trees go on sale this time of year. Good luck!
