Fig Prospecting - Fase 2 - Main Crop

Due to family health problems my Fase 1 prospecting - Brebas and Caprifigs was cut short last year and i couldn't do my fase 2 in August.

Let's see if i can find a few good main crop varieties this year.

First candidate
Lisbon - near Campo de Ourique - Prazeres

A fig tree on a slope. It has a privileged view to the river and the bridge.

The tree show signs of pruning (probably done by the city workers). Lots of new growth, so it was fairly recent.

I couldn't find a single mature fig (probably too early for this variety). The figs that were showing the first signs of maturity were all pecked by birds.

It looks fairly prolific. Lots of figs a few weeks from maturity.

I opened a fig that showed a little more color but clearly still unripe. The pulp is red.

An interesting tree. I won't be coming here again for a month. I hope it's not too late to taste a mature fig.

I brought home a few cuttings and will try to root them despite being still green.
If they root, i think i will name it "Figo dos Prazeres - Unk" for my own reference, until i have the opportunity to identify the variety.

Hello Jaime
Hope the family health problems now resolved--
As for this fig, it's a major discovery.. A light colored fig with red insides in Lisbon is great!  Almost as a rule, everything down there is Pingo de Mel !!  Watch this one as it may reveal some surprises. Is that road the very last access to the bridge when leaving the capital to go South ! - The Monsanto woods circling that area are worth a visit and I am sure it will be hiding a few treasures !
