He mentioned that the Panache fig came from France, which confirms what others have said.
Since it is a fairly untested cultivar in colder zones, I would test it along with other varieties. I presume that it will take several more years and many tests to know for sure.
My Panache which I bought from an online nursery about four years ago still has not produced a single fig, but know that it will soon.
As to the way this fig tastes, I would buy Panache at a store near me every time over any other black mission or Brown Turkey when in season.
The way this fig tastes makes it a serious contender to one of favorite figs, namely Col De Dame Blanc.
In Texas, it would not be a problem, as I'm able to ripen just about any fig I grow with a couple of exceptions so far, but If it is a late ripening fig, then it might not be suitable for growing everywhere, unless one could create the right environment for it.
