They are very special to me because I grew up eating the same figs but they wasn't brought over by our family when they came to the US or anything. One came from a old foreign lady in the 70's and other was given to my grandfather by a church member a few years later who said it's an old fig that dates back to the Exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt.

Happy to share, Daniel. I got a Black Jack at a local nursery in January of 2013, and it did so well, I was encouraged to seek out more. Shocking how easy that is. I joined the California Rare Fruit Growers, and at their scion exchange, I got many different cuttings. Found the forum, and got more. Ebay some too. This part of California is not as hot as SoCal, or the Central Valley, though the fig trees grow like crazy. My plan is to find out what varieties taste the best to me and do well here. I am also planting caprifigs in ground, so that I hopefully can introduce wasps here. So far, 6 in-ground trees, with 15-20 more by Spring. In containers they just grow too fast. Of course, I have 30-40 apple varieties, pears, persimmons, peaches, berries, etc. It is the home of Luther Burbank around here. brianm... ya think??? Thank Igor.

I'm in Southern Oh zone 6a. It is a great one to start with. The figs were awesome last year.. I am thankful it came back to life this year evn though no figs.. I will definitely protect it this winter so I can have some to eat next year :) I love everyones collections. I'm going to try and keep mine to a dozen or 2 and even if I want more trees I will just make more of the ones I end up with. If I were further south I might try to gather up a few hundred varieties like you guys..

Thats awesome Jeff, there are many others in zone 6a growing figs but it isn't going to be easy, Winter protection is key be it wrapping or storing the plants somewhere. I hope everything works out for you and you have an abundant crop of figs next year. Will, I tried RDB 3 times now 1 cutting each time. first one rotted, the second time fungus gnats killed the rooted cutting, 3rd time was a charm until it fruited. I had noticed the leaves looked similar to celeste but figured it was just a young plant then it fruited and produced a small fig also similar to celeste. Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes.

Very nice Greg. You obtained many new varieties this past year I see.I love the fact you are trying to develope new fig varieties and live so far up north. I have some seeds I collected from about 10-12lbs of wasp damaged figs over a 4 weeks period from many different plants throughout the property. out of all those figs I only had about a half gram of sinkers or around 100 seeds . If you'd like I can send you about 20 seeds to try. I'm not sure if they will grow but they did sink and I've heard of non caprified figs producing viable seed in the past. let me know if you are interested and I'll be happy to send you some.

Hi Pino. Because I live outside of the normal fig range I'm hoping that working with seedlings might help me find plants that can adapt to my zone. Seedlings are a low investment for screening and they may be somewhat epigenetically flexible while in their juvenile years. We'll see. Part of the hobby for me. Greenfig, thank you. What fig is it and any idea who the caprifig was?

Hershell, are those leaf shapes on Nero 600 and Vasilika Sika holding consistent? I sort of expected them to go back to fingery, so if not that's interesting. I wonder if one leaf type or the other might be more productive? Broader leaves catching more light and better hiding the figs from birds maybe?

James. I have a lot of information on the Nero 600. I have two plants and that is how I see it. Just kidding. harveyc posted about his having two leaves so I got one of the ones that is not fingered. My thoughts is that the fingered leaves may have been a mutation and now it is mutating back to the original. I have a friend that has both leaves on one plant. There is a thread and picks somewhere.
Greenfig. The Gmail171gaudi is a great fig. It will send me a message when it has ripe figs and I have waited and waited, the only thing it can't do is correct my spelling. Thanks for pointing that out. The Capri figs I hope to grow and get wast sent to me so I can try to keep them alive through the winter. I would like to have several large trees hoping to keep a viable colony if it is possible.
Grasa. Thanks for the kind words.
Greg. I bought both trees and it seems to me that there are two varieties with the same name. I'm sere someone knows more than I do. The long fingered one is the much sought after one on eBay.
I forgot that most of my trees are in 3 gallon post, about 25 in 15 gallon pots and a new group of 1 gallon.

Greg, The fig is an Unk. Pastilliere. The closest to me Caprifig is a black one. I could check the seeds if they sink first.
