Does anyone on this forum know of any nurseries in southeastern NY with a good selection of fig trees or any for that matter? I live in Dutchess county and I think I may dwell in the fig devoid capitol of America. The only place I have found was Adams in Poughkeepsie which carries one type of fig tree. Ant help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Johnnie, really good local nurseries that carry a variety of fig trees is pretty rare. I have personally lucked out, living 20 miles from Just Fruit and Exotics close to Tallahassee. Most of us have acquired our collections via mail-order and cutting exchanges with other members. There are several members on this forum that sell potted figs, like our leader Jon (Encato Farms), Bass (Trees of Joy) and several others. I have personally started selling a limited number on ebay and craigslist this year. If you consider going this route, you can do a search of reliable sellers on this forum so that you won't get ripped off.
Good Luck

Thank you for the leads. I am kind of old fashioned I guess and still prefer to buy things that are right in front of me.

Many members near you like Herman2, Ejp3, Bass, Marius, Gorgi etc do sell fig trees. These figs4fun members have an excellent collection. Of course Jon from Encanto Farms.

Paully22, Thanks for the info. I guess I will just have to sit back and be patient. Hopefully someone semi local to me will have some trees for sale in the near future.

Johnnie, In addition to the members mentioned previously that sell fig trees, I would also recommend Durio Nursery and Just Fruits and Exotics. Both have websites and I can say from experience that both do an excellent job packing the tree for delivery.

Check with Ed Powers, he's a member here that has many trees. Not sure where you live, he lives on long island. If your close to him, he can get you whatever your looking for. There's also Gorgi, who lives in NJ up your way. Angelo also lives up your way and is moving south, so he might be able to help you out too. luke

There are plenty of places that sell figs, and people on Craig's list, here in Morris county New Jersey- probably less than 2hrs from you down 87/287. Last year the local Agway sold about 3-4 varieties. Other local nurseries will generally have something, though maybe just brown turkey. You could probably find places on Bergen, rockland or westchester as well, just don't know of any off hand.

Motown- those Agway trees stunk. I bought bothe the Celeste and the Italian honey there. IH is dead and the Celeste is a big time dropper. If you need some more trees I have over 50 in 1 gallon pots. I'm sure you can have a few if you can make the drive out to the country.

Johnnie, If Northern NJ is not far from you. You can visit me. Have some cold hardy variety in ground that I am willing to let go to make room for other varieties.

Also thank you to all the east coast folks for providing me with some leads. I don't understand why Dutchess county has almost nobody selling fig trees.

Johnnie, if Bethlehem, PA is not too far from you, you might give Bass at http://www.treesofjoy.com a visit. He has over 300 varieties. He's visiting family right now but will be back next week. Growing figs in your region is probably more challenging than what the average homeowner is willing to deal with and nurseries can't justify the expense of carrying an inventory that moves slowly.
