Fig trees in hydroponics - deep water culture

I am growing four 4' tall fig trees in a hydroponic system using deep water culture. I am using FloraNova Grow, Bush Doctor, CaliMagic, silica additives, and P/K additives. The four trees have been in the system for 3 weeks and are leafing out nicely. Is anyone else trying to grow figs in hydroponics?

Pics would be cool.

Truly amazing, very interesting setup.

I would love to see that set up as well.  Sounds like a great idea.

Thai, That link was like a light bulb, I have been growing a few as step-overs, Japanese style, and in 2 years nothing note worthy about the method here, more time is needed.

But this drip fed, high intensity actually looks promising with less work maintaining cordons, etc.  Thanks for posting link.

Anyone have any details on the system in ThaiFig's post?  It kinda looks like the Dutch Bucket system on Youtube.  I am building a similar system for tomatoes and I intend on trying 5 fig trees as a trial.

MHPGardener

I use a 24 slot turbo kloner with dome lid. Short cycle timer heat mat for bottom to warm water to 80 plus degrees and air bubbler bar root enhancer and hydrogen peroxide. Cant post pics but i get so much roots i have to pot up directly from cloner to a 1 gallon pot

Pull the cuttings out and check for white jell like balls building up. Wipe off with wash cloth remove any bark that is loose. Only do this if you see a problem described. Also add hydrogen peroxide every three days. You can have great leaves but they will die if you have a problem building up on lower end

I added pics tot he top post. I am growing full trees using an 1000 gallon/hour water aeration pump. Is there still a need for H2O2

You should be fine. H202 IS USED WHEN THERE IS NO MEDIA BEING USED FOR ROOTS. YOUR USING ROOT MEDIA SO YOU WILL BE GOOD. MY SYSTEM IS WATER ONLY. YOURS LOOK VERY GOOD SYSTEM. MINE IS A CHEAP 200.00 DOLLERS SYSTEM.

What is the NPK ratios you are using for hydro figs?

Is anyone using aquaponics to grow figs? Fertilizer is from fish waste. I'm doing veggies but never thought about doing a tree. How many years can the tree stay in such a small bucket? Sounds like some of you are just rooting cuttings and others are growing trees .

I found a Japanese Society of Horticultural Science article from 1998 on growing fig trees in hydroponics. The article is in Japanese, but the abstract and tables are in English. It gave good information about nutrient solution strength, cutting diameter, temperature, and fruiting. The article can be found at the link below.
