Any luck, any experts. Francisco what do you think mate?

Hey kkk2210, a while back I did a small video on fig Wasp. Take a look at it, maybe you can compare them to the ones you have on your fig. Good luck!

Looks exactly the same. But how is it possible we don't have fig wasps in the UK ??

Vinny,

IMO the insects you show are not fig wasps.
It's a different kind of insect.

Google search "black soldier fly."  The critter in your pictures look a bit like a black solder fly (or BSF).  The adult BSF will not harm fruit.  It cannot eat fruit because adult BSFs do not have eating mechanism, but can drink water.  BSF larvae can and do eat all organic material.  Very good composters, and good for a compost bin.  Examples of BSF larvae foods are food waste/scraps, carrion (dead animals), manure. The adult BSF generally does not carry disease.  The female does not lay eggs directly in rotting food or manure...the larvae will crawl toward their favorite foods.  They have no stinger or venum.  As their entire adult life is all about mating and reproducing.  If you see one it probably isn't flying, because they don't fly nearly as much as houseflies.  www.blacksoldierflyfarming.com     Inserting a picture of a BSF here:

Hello Vinny,
Here you have a very interesting report on the fig wasp plus a set of priceless professional pictures  of the various  metamorphosis phases... the males, the females,...- flowers /pollen...etc.
Hope you can have it translated from Spanish.

Congratulations for the author

Hi Francisco,
Thank you for the report. The original post was from 2015 and I haven't seen any wasp since then. So it's clearly some bug.

Hi AlfredKG,
Thank you.

Excellent link, Francisco. Wonderful macro photos. Thank you very much.
