Figs Choices for Tulsa, Oklahoma

I am looking for recommendations on few fig trees to grow a little north of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Hopefully some that can be planted in the ground and will not require much, if any, special winter care.

I have some family members in this area that would like to grow figs. But they will not be interested in container growing and the "shuffle". They can probably do some winter protection, but they are not big gardeners (other than a few vegetables). I would like to get some trees started for them as gifts this next spring.

I know Hardy Chicago, but what else? Unknowns are okay too. They wouldn't care. They just want a "good fig". And they don't know about the different taste profiles. But I am thinking at least one berry and one sugar/honey.

I will also probably send a couple to a sister in northern Arkansas too.

Don't forget, The right Celeste would be an excellent choice. It's hard to beat and there's plenty of it around TX.
Since fig trees could tolerate temperatures down to 17 degrees F, depending on age, whatever you chose to plant, your tree will initially need protection.

I live in the same hardiness zone as you and have been seeking out varieties that should have the attributes you are looking for. I got a few of these unknowns from Aaron a few weeks ago. They should fit the bill and have all started rooting very quickly and easily.

RDB.  It is early, easy to find, cheap, and grows vigorously for me, and is by all accounts cold hardy.  Many of mine split open here, but I don't think excessive rain is a problem near Tulsa.

I found this post and wondered what you had decided to recommend?  I live in Norman, which is typically drier than the Tulsa area but similar enough that I was curious what your experience had been....

I sent RdB, an English Brown Turkey, LSU Tiger, LSU Purple, and Celeste. The last two were just because I had extras. Besides, everyone needs a Celeste. Hopefully at least 3 will survive (they've never planted a fruit tree before).
