Figs going bad

I need help about what might be causing many of my figs to go bad as shown in the pics. They look amazing just before ripening. This is happening mostly on trees over 20 years old planted in a field and who have reached quite a size.

It's ripe good honey fig, what is the bad about it ?

where are you from ?

Hi,
I get some like that on my Dalmatie when there is too much rain, or too much sun - but rather with too much rain.
How is the weather at your location at the moment of ripening ?
Is it just with that strain of figs ? Do you have more than one strain in that field? Could be a problem with that strain ...
Figs that are not exposed but rather protected by the leaves tend to have less problems.
You should try to let your trees get more dense on their canopy. Of course if they lost their leaves because of poor watering ...

I am from Malta in Europe. Certainly it is not a problem of overwatering. This year we had a below average annual rainfall of just 300mm or so. The figs are getting rotten starting on the eye on their underside. I suspect it must be an insect. I do not use any pesticides.
