First Salce fig, So good!

This post is a few weeks late when I had my first few Salce figs back in the 1st week of August.  They were really good.  Nice sweet caramel flavor with some honey flavor as well.  Not a huge fig, but really great flavor.  I can see why this variety is at the top of some of the fig lists.  This fig is definitely one of my favorites.

Congrats on a very nice fig!

I was lucky enough to get a cutting of Salce and got to taste one this year.  I can confirm that even for a small 2 yr old palnt it produced a delicious very sweet fig.

I waited too long to see if it would drip honey so I ended up picking it way too ripe but still excellent taste.

Still waiting for ripe ones on my 2nd year plant - they are just starting to swell.

Pino, You Salce looks as though it has the consistency of jelly.  What a beaut!

Ed, best of luck and enjoy, this was a 2nd year plant for me too.

I love my Salce fig tree!  It's one of my few trees that has ripened fruit despite dying down to the ground over the winter, and the flavor is quite different from that of any of my other trees.  I think it has a peachy flavor.

I can hardly wait to try it.  Thanks to James (GreenFin), I have Salce cuttings (among others).  Now I just have to wait until they root and start producing.  In another two+ years.  Anticipation....is keeping me waiting. :)

I got a couple newly rooted trees and they are growing SUPER vigorously. Fingers crossed I'll try one this year.

You'll be happy with this one! Has its own flavor profile, and has a great origin and story from another Mario here on the forum. It's from the Molise region of Italy. It's a favorite for me (and I'm sure others as well).

Yea, first year tree has produced a lot of fruit and its very good and unique.  I'm definitely keeping this one.

Carmel and honey and great flavor combination.

My second year Salce produced nothing all year, dropped all its leaves in the heat of summer, and is just now beginning to push leaves out again. I don't think it likes our heat here in SoCal, even though it had afternoon shade. Hopefully next year will be better.
