What do I do?  I have several trees, bushes of figs, some new plants and others a year or so old.  Just cover them or what?

Cover them? Yes! Go to Lowes home improvement and get some frost blankets. They will add 10degrees of warmth to your trees. I use them every year.

In central Texas I think it would depend on what you want your trees to do, and their current status.

Do they still have figs that might possibly finish ripening? If so, cover them. Do they still have new growth, or are they still fairly small? If so, cover them.

If the trees are mature, or at least a year or two old, then they should be okay uncovered. If you want them to go ahead and become dormant, then definitely don't cover them.

Temps down to 30 degrees or a little lower for just a few hours should not hurt most fig trees. I am also in 8b Texas, and I am leaving all my trees out uncovered (all but cuttings rooted in the last 2 - 3 months). I am covering my young citrus trees though.

I agree with what Cliff said.  

But If they are in pots and you want to be absolutely sure (these are your babies right?) then move them to a sheltered place and/or cover them like Snaglpus suggested.

I know here I live in a valley and we often get a couple degrees cooler than up at my driveway.

Sonya, technically, being in Texas and in zone 8b, you should be fine.  Me?  I'm in zone 8a but Thursday, Friday, and Saturday its suppose to be 28/53, 23/43, and 26/44 respectively.  The funny thing is over the next few days, it will be colder in Houston Texas than Charlotte, NC!  Go figure!!!!!!
