After a long day of picking grapes and taking them to the wine-maker in a nearby town, we swung past the home of a fig grower that I had visited before. For the person's privacy, I won't mention names. I had gotten cuttings from them earlier this year, and this time around they were generous again and let us sample many of the figs - which are now ripe. I can't remember them all, but panachee and zidi stood out as both beautiful and extremely good. Deanna stood out, or should I say 'stood back' as being a total nothing. Sadly after a long day of picking and wine-tasting, many of the others blended together in my mildly marinated mind. But the entire day was great, capped off with visiting a very nice and interesting person, and tasting some really good figs for the first time ever.

If you are referring to the enticing pictures of ripe figs others post, then, yes, I no longer feel as if I'm being taunted. ;) Just kidding of course because I like seeing all the pictures, but now that I have some different fig tastes under my belt (both literally and figuratively) and know what the future could hold, I am pleased. :) :)

Gina, that was an excellent day for you and a great opportunity to taste a few varieties. Yes it is worth the wait to get figs growing!
