Andreas,

Thanks for showing this wonderfull fig. I feel much happier now and hope that my ripening Kalamata shall be like yours, with that deep red pulp.
I can'r remember where I got the idea that this Greek variety was of a sort of yellowish, honey type pulp. Another couple of days and if the birds keep quite I may have it to show.

@ Fransisco
the one you have will be a variety with sort of yellowish, honey type pulp, because you have the one that gets dried up.
this is not the same fig as yours.
its a named green fig..

Will wait and see.
The fellow in Greece from whom it was purchased said it was Kalamatiana, the other one
Vassilika Melissi (seems now to be Mavra instead of Melissi) the third one...Smyrnaika..
Need to wait a bit more..

Beautiful fig. I am going to start a small collection of Greek figs as my mothers family is from Athens Greece- named 'Anjakos'. My grandfather was a candy maker by trade there and moved to the US in the 1920's. I would like to find a source for your particular fig if anyone on this site knows where it can be found.  Thanks for sharing the great pictures. Would love to see pictures of your tree's if you are ever able to post them. Be well.

Mary Lane is listed on the genetic map as nearest kin to Kalamata (Yellow Kalamata, presumably, if not Green Kalamata): (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2860561/figure/Fig1/).
Mary Lane is an impressive fig with an agave flavor, lighter than honey, bright yellow skin, juicy, and looks something like a yellow tangerine.
