Hi. I am new here. Great forum. Really enjoying reading and trying to absorb all the info.

I am soon to visit a friend in Kentucky from Australia. I'm thinking it might be nice to help her get a fig tree or two established this summer, while I am there, as we both love them.

So I've been busy educating myself on US cultivars and those suitable for her climate (zone 6b). Hardy Chicago and Celeste (and/or possibly White Marseille) seem like they should do well, and give pleasing different flavors. Though I would welcome any other recommendations, especially for varieties that could be grown in ground without winter protection. I intend to start the plants off in pots, and expect to over-winter them in a garage for the first year or two.

Anyway, I arrive mid-May. Would it be too late to plant cuttings then, should any still be available? Otherwise does anyone know where it should be possible to buy these plants locally in Louisville, Ky? I have been googling with unsatisfactory results.
