I obtained several cuttings of a fig grown at the local Ag Extension trial gardens a couple of years ago and rooted them. The tree at the trial garden was quite large but dormant at the time, and no one could tell me what the fruit or leaves were like. The tree has been in their trial garden for at least 15 years that I personally know of, and unfortunatly I never seem to go there when it's fruiting. Does anyone know anything about Hardy New York or if it has synonyms. I can't find anything about it online.

Personally never heard the name or saw that name in any publication. Could be anything . Maybe one day if it works out for you pictures of it's fruit and leaves may help others identify it once it has matured into an adult plant.

Seems like shoddy research is going on at that Ag Extension. If no one there can recall the fruit it is likely that the tree is unsuited for that area. Good luck though!

It's not a very good extension office. I once took my canner lid with pressure guage in to have it tested like we always read about doing, and I ended up having to do the test myself and educate the two ladie there on how to do it. Pretty pathetic.

The little trees are still too small to put on much fruit, and with last summer's drought not much of anything fruited so I don't know what the fruit was like. And to be honest I didn't think to pay attention to the leaf shape while they were growing. Overall, they seem to be as healthy and grow as well as many other trees--not overly vigorous but not slow either.

Funny!
I do have one fig from our local (NJ) Ag. Extension...
It was called "Big Al" and some things I was told are that it is
a dark fig that originally came from Italy and that the word "big" only
relates to the person's first name who brought it here
(and not the fruit size).
Jon is currently offering some cuttings off it...

I'm glad to hear that it was not just me with a swing and a miss. I'm hoping everyone has better luck with list number two.
