Hello new friends

Hello all,
Just a little background about myself, for several years I've been a gardener and a bird breeder(canaries and finches). When moved to Deer Park, NY the prior owner had several plants in the back yard including many fig trees. I hacked down several trees but left one fig tree because of my father, I was only interested with my vegetable garden, lavender, blue berries and raspberries .

Long story short... I only tasted the figs one year, I lived here for 7yrs. For year the fig tree would freeze, I would move it to have more room for my garden, then finally it died.

I while researching how to take care of fig plants that led me to several YouTube videos then to this forum.

Because of this I now have several plants many of which I ordered from ebay my local plant nursery, and Hirts farm. My search to get back one fig plant ended in me buying the below+ ,  many some I have more than one, I blame New England Gardener, Ross, PA Fig, Ben and other (several other plants and cuttings died).

Welcome and that is quite a collection for a new grower- impressive. Are all these in pots or in ground?   Lots of Long Islanders growing figs up here and the members of the forum provide great support and advice. Forum members also a really good trusted source of varieties and with fall coming soon you will find lots of cuttings offered.  On ebay it is also good to check on the forum to be sure someone knows the seller. Lots of forum members also sell on ebay.  good luck on that new collection.

Welcome, Rockwell. Congratulations on your collection!

I have them all in pots, I saw a old video a few months ago of a Long Island nursery owner on Martha Stewart and YouTube videos that said it was the best thing to do.

Rockwell, Welcome to the forum. You already have a superb collection.

You will find that this group is full of experts who are always ready to guide us in our efforts with growing figs and eating them when they are at their peak.

Marcel

Thank you Marcel.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum!  In what USDA zone are you ? Zone7 ?
If so, you have some strains of figtrees that are not Zone7 friendly ...

Morning
That is what I learned this year. I have a few options I can put them in my sheds or my garage. Prior years I did not understand the importance of protecting them indoors.
