Help! Broken fig tree!

Hi, I'm new to this site and new to fig trees. What brought me here was my roommate being upset that the fig tree he has been growing for the last two years , got trampled and snapped! It is only a couple feet tall and hasn't changed much since his parents gave it to him. He did say there were two figs on it last year and that's the first he has seen any fruit. Now I'm hoping to help him rescue what is left. There is still some in the ground. The piece that is broken off was the one with all the sprouts. It's about 12 inches with 4 skinny shoots. Any advice is much appreciated! 💕🐝 I will be taking care of this plant from here on. Growing Zone 8A

It will bounce back. Cut it so its not jagged and root the top have. Cut the cutting to six inchs less or more but you want at least 3 nodes. So now he,will have more trees.

Hi and welcome.

What a bummer.  I accidentally broke one of my plants earlier this spring.  It was started in May of 2015 and it broke almost in half (potted).  It was probably the best thing that could have happened to it.  The plant sent out five or six new stems and fruited this summer.  Hopefully something similar will happen to your friend's plant.

I would suggest he give it a nice cut just above a node.  If he's so inclined he could use the top part for cuttings and grow more trees.  If it was later in the summer I'd suggest trying to graft some of the branches back onto the main tree.  He should also put a big barrier over the tree and hopefully it won't be trampled on again.

Good luck!

p.s.  Add your growing zone to your signature so that people can advise you better.

Sent my sister a Letizia air layer and her dog chewed it off near the ground but it sprouted new shoots.  They're pretty tough.

I'm a bit confused.....He has only one fig tree? I'm at a loss..... I'm not sure I can process this.....

It can't be! This person is still clinically sane. Welcome to the forum Jingerbee.
