Hollier up pot today

Off to a great start.

I have learned to not be over confident with cuttings, if it makes it now, It will be in good shape

I choose this one because of a decent root and a decent amount of shoots coming out, if I didn't up pot it into a different soil medium, it would lack the proper condition for proper growth.

Looks familiar, lol.

Add a little lime and 14-14-14 Ozmocote, and the strong roots make my day.

Up-plant to at least 1 gallon pot. I had several very good medium sized figs from it.

Very comparable, so far, to O'Rourke, but twice as big.

After it goes outside and has adjusted 3-4 weeks to natural sunlight, transplant to 5 gallon or larger with an increase of he same nutrients listed above.

Really fast for strong roots, you made my day, Mike :) !

Soil-less mixtures need fertilization at this point and keep the soil moist.

5 Ft plant by August and two ripe figs before September 1st

No sip, follow above, put money on it, lol.

Happy Holidays, Mike

That is less than two weeks right?

Soulless mixtures need fertilization at this point and the soil has to be kept moist.

Great start, roots like that and those leaves are definitely going to grow.

5 Ft by August and at least two ripe figs before September 1st, put money on it with the above fertilizer stuff. No sip pots.

No stale water and having to water gives activation to the lime and slow release fertilizer.

Juicy and honey sweet, sugary.

Mike, everything you sent me rooted like this, even my Red Sicilian! Thanks!

Wow!

Typed, disappeared retyped disappeared

Vanished, and came back, all I can say is don't buy someone you like a Surface tablet, lol

Mike

That is amazing! You went from a cutting to that in 2 weeks!

I will be planting some cuttings soon (shortly after they arrive) and would love to know your secret formula.

Angela

Hi Angela,
This year these are growing in my wine chiller.

I converted a wine chiller into a grow room, photos are here if you do a search for wine chiller. With temp control, it's staying at 78 degrees and with containers of water, humidity is over 55% and more like 66%.

I have an LED grow light in there, 12 watts and no above heat, just a heat Matt below. The light stays on for 15 hours.

Thanks Peter.  I looked at your wine chiller setup posts just now.  I think I first saw them when you posted them but didn't really get a grasp of what you were doing (at that time).

Too bad for me since I don't have a wine chiller.

Angela

I just used this because I had it and it no longer worked, i saw good insulation and a tight door seal and the light bulb went off.

You can use anything that can hold heat and humidity, I very rarely mist them.

I first washed all clippings in a Bleach/water mix then let dry, I then slashed the clippings about inches in the bottom half with a razor in a few spots, then I dipped the clippings in Clonex , then I put the clippings in Coco coir and Perlite, about a 70/30 mix in clear cups, no holes.

As far as watering, last year I probably killed many by over watering, I just leave them alone now, even when they look a little dry on top, I leave them.

wish you the best of luck, I am positive you will have success

Mike, I am afraid how big they will grow, since we are only in December, if they start getting too big, my backup plan is to buy a 4 tier mini greenhouse for the house until late Spring. Do you think I will have an issue with outgrowing the wine chiller? without real sunlight and Summer weather?

Hang some grow lights from the living room beams ;)

I have this on order for backup, I can always use it in Springtime outside, I think I am at my limits with my wife when this gets setup in the den

Yeah I can see where that might get you in trouble. I tried figs in the living room and bedroom windows. It was super great, for about the two weeks it took her to get them out and into a grow room. She wasn't having it.

I started out with cuttings using this.

This was the best system I have used when starting 50 plus cuttings.
I have thought many times to set it back up but I am about at the limit of figs I want.

Put a plastic liner on your floor.

Doug

Hey Doug, that is what I am looking to do.

One question, what size should I expect my fig plants to get by April?  I cant imagine more than three feet with artificial light and inside??

My figs are usually a foot plus by the first few weeks in march when I plant them.
I would not expect that much growth that fast.

Doug

I might add that if you use "grow" lights
you can check your lux output at plant height
with a simple android app to measure light intensity.
I have played around with 10,800+ (the highest reading my sensor can register)
lux at leaf height, and sunburn leaves.
Through experimenting, I find 6000 lux adequate
for figs and optimal growth.
6000 lux is not that hard to achieve, no matter what type of lighting you use.
I use LED's because they run at very low cost per lux output.
I'm not special, any body in the same zone can have the same results.

Hollier by the way has always been the easiest and quickest to root cuttings
I have ever grown. A super fast grower in ground. Good job rooting.

Doug

Thanks Doug,
I have a single 12 watt led lamp, first time using this.

I have a Red Sicilian that rooted about the same way, just waiting for a little more growth to up pot it.
