Now that I've been exposed to more honey figs.. I'm wondering if there's much difference in them in terms of taste. To me.. the few honey figs I've had taste about the same. What I'm trying to figure out is.. is it worth having more than an early, mid & late honey fig?Honey figs described by AscPete, "Honey sweet, ranging from lightly sweet to very sweet with rich (creamy) and or complex additional flavors. Fig flavor can range from none to light. Seed crunch can range from none to strong with nutty flavor."I consider all of these honey figs, and I'm wondering which of these is your favorite and stands out among the rest. Or perhaps you have a favorite not listed:
There is a large variety in that list. For example, I wouldn't classify Yellow Neches as a honey fig, and probably put it in a category by itself. Golden Celeste, Flanders, LSU Gold, etc. Have nothing in common.
Must grow ALL THE FIGS!!!!http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/06/this-is-why-ill-never-be-adult.html
On some days, I find myself asking the same question. From your list, these three get honor mention by me so far: Deanna Larger than usual size Yellow fruit. Need to be fully ripe for Maximum flavor. MidAtreano Large green fruit and balanced flavor LateAlma Brownish fruit and very prolific. LateMy top two early Varieties are the Sicilian Bifera(similar to Atreano but larger) and St. Anthony(Yellow fruit). The Yellow Neches has a much more complex caramel flavor than a Honey fig. Unfortunately my UCD Yellow Neche has not been as productive as I hoped. In over four years I've had a handful of figs. I continue to look forward to the next season. lol.
Yes, YN does have a berry taste.
Yellow Neches is different in many ways. It is a very small fig, has a thick "peel" that is so soft it almost isn't there. The peel is an integral part of the flavor.
