Devin, good luck and be careful. Maybe ask for cuttings if it's on private land and the owner is at home, that way you can also ask for the name of the variety. You'll end up with a bunch of unknowns otherwise :)

Jdsfrance: I wouldn't steal from a homeowner, mainly because I know how murderous I'd get if someone cut my children!

Pverdes3: It will be mainly if I see some sold in Paris or a city planting. Last time I went I only remember plantains but then again it was January and I wasn't looking hard. Unfortunately we aren't going to southern France at all, I really wanted to go to Baud. But maybe another time I can visit Provence.

It sure is difficult to leave my trees though! I left a very long note for the plant and cat sitter and literally checked soil and stem all of the multitudes but even still. I always stress.

This trip isn't just about the figs is it?  I hope you'll be partaking in some nice food and (more importantly) wine?

Nononono! It's about 2/3 visiting various family members, 1/3 total vacation ;) and figs where I can get them in ;). I love eating in France, the bread is unbelievable!

They're all in southern France, which unfortunately I won't be making fig related trips that far out of the way. I've still seen.some interesting growing things do far, wine grapes and olives.

I found four different varieties of figs and got to taste their under and over ripened not optimal figs, but still what more could you ask for in November from dormant and mostly dormant figs?  I also saw a cool Ficus Sur at the Botanical Garden in Paris.  For those that don't know it is a variety of fig bearing ficus that makes fruits edible only for birds, if my memory serves me well it hails from Africa and is among the family of Cluster Figs.

That sounds nice! Do they need the wasp? Im pretty sure ficus racemosa is one that doesn't need it but there are a bunch of cluster figs :)
