Hello - I'm just wondering if I'll have, at least, mediocre quality figs this year from the cuttings that I started late 2013. I have cuttings in 1 gallon pots now, and I understand that the variety is a factor, but at what point will I get to try figs from these cuttings? I also have 2 year old potted figs that will be going in the ground in a couple of months. Thanks!

I had figs in August from the cuttings I rooted in February. Those were Strawberry Verte and Golden Celeste. I had more from other varieties further down the road. By December it was 5 I tasted.

depends. i had St. Rita 11 months after rooting. typically, i knock off all my figs off the cuttings on first yr. i didn't get to them last yr. i tasted few figs off the cuttings i rooted 10-11 months before. i had few good ones.

It sounds hopeful that I'll be able to taste the fruits of my labor ;-) within a year.

If you are after figs from these young trees you might pinch the growth once they produce a few figs. This will put more of the plants resources to ripening the few figs. Some people remove the figs from the first year to encourage plant growth. Depends what you want.

In Zone 7/6, I have to wait 2 years for the faster ( Brownturkey) , 3 years is for all normal strains. I have 3 strains in ground; 2 of those were poorly rooted suckers in October 2011. One showed figlets beginning of September 2013. The third was a rooted tree in a 1 Liter pot in September 2011 - This year the cold spring made it's two brebas fall , maincrop showed up beginning of September 2013 - 2 months too late . So for this 3, hopefully in their third year -2014- I'll be able to taste them ... Patience ... Patience ... Of course, if you have a greehouse with artificial lights ... Than it's another business ... As some already have written, the first figs are not at the best of what the tree can make... So Patience .

Pinch all growth after 6-8 leaves, as per Herman, and you should have figs this year.
