I look forward to your kind cooperation.

Hi.
I live in Korea and I am interested in figs.
Here are some figs.
Please recommend a variety of figs that survive in cold climates.
Thank you.

I live in 6a zone

Your best varieties for surviving 6a will be Marseilles Black VS and Longue d'Aout, among lots of other varieties.  These are simply two that I've had a few years experience with.  This means if you plant at least a 1 gallon fig tree in the ground next spring, it should grow back every year.  If you do not use any winter protection, the top growth will likely die but the roots will be alive.  With my ground trees, they all start back from the ground, shooting up several new branches.  If we have extremely cold winters that bring abnormal temps (polar vortex), there is no guarantee the tree will survive at all, even with winter protection.  So if possible, try to keep a backup in a pot that you can keep protected either in an unheated attached garage, or a very well insulated in a storage building.

Welcome to F4F!  What climate zone is S. Korea?
Figs are deciduous trees that grow best in sub-tropical climates.
Once established they seem to grow fine in climates where temperatures stay above -5C during winter and can resist to -9C and lower for brief periods and lower temps if protected or in micro climates.

In cool climates the most important factor is choosing figs is the cultivar ripening period needs to match your grow season.  Also in areas where there is no fig wasp need to choose common type figs and possibly san pedro type.

Here is topic on favourite cool climate figs.  All the figs in the list should ripen fine to Zones 5&6.

I check with Korea weather, It has warmer summer climate than PNW where I live so It should be able to ripen some figs.

However, It might be problem at July/Aug where rain season, Do you see fig tree ripen its figs in your area at August?

I would love those Korea persimmon from market, They are big and tasty.

Welcome to the forum!

We lived for several years in South Korea, with one of those years being there in Inchon.  With Inchon being a port city, it doesn't get as brutally cold as the balance of Korea, but you will still need to provide winter protection for your trees, as the daily average temperature from Dec 1st to Mar 1st is still below freezing.

The ocean's tempering also affects your summers, so without the intense heat to bring out the sugars in many of the cultivars, you should stick with varieties that perform well in the Pacific Northwest as mentioned, and in our San Francisco Bay Area.  SarahKT, smatthew, and figgary have had good luck with Ronde de Bordeaux, Pastiliere, and I-258 in summer weather which is close to yours.
