Im a Sucker for Suckers

So guys,...I have a question. Is it necessary to cut off these suckers or baby fig trees growing in my pot? This is happening on my Smith, Panache, brown turkey and Alma trees. The mother trees seem to still be in dormancy. The trees arrived late last year as a single trunk but I would like the trees take on a more bushy form anyways. My plan is to eventually do a lot of air layering in the future. It's just crazy that the main tree is staying in dormancy so long.

Do you think the main trunk may be dead from the winter cold?

Those 'suckers' are just branches that form underground.  If you want a bush shape leave them.  The more wood that's underground the better the plant will come back from cold injury.

I really hope the winter did not kill the main trunk. I'm in San Antonio TX so i figured i didn't really have to worry about our short winters..
