Improved Celeste or orourke

noss,

This year this philosophy is being reinforced by the rains you and I are getting. My O'Rourke,LSU Purple, and LSU Gold are loaded with beautiful figs that I mostly feed to my dog who doesn't seem to be as discriminating as I am. The only upside to this is that they are ripening far ahead of schedule, and I can't wait to see the disappointed look upon the mocking bird and cardinals' faces when they arrive expecting to keep me from getting any figs.

I know what you mean.

In my yard the mockingbirds are taking first dibs with the figs and they are laughing at me.  Mostly they are chipping and growling at me to warn me to stay away from "their" figs.  They are feisty little birds.  They even dive-bomb me in my own yard!  The nerve of those little feathered thugs.  And they're teaching their babies to be hostile as well.  The babies are the ones who are ruining the unripe  figs that are just about to ripen.  They ruined about six almost ripe, beautiful Smith figs and pulled the flesh right through the bird netting, which I had to clean off the netting.

I wish I had your luck with the birds not getting my figs, but if it's not one thing, it's the other.

Good luck to both of us,

noss

My lsu gold figs get split between three dogs. I live in south Louisiana. Rain for two weeks.

This rain is really getting tiresome. The mosquitoes are voracious,so I've been taking my possum guard in at night. This morning when we went out for our walk he went nuts around the fig trees, and there was evidence that they had been visited by possums. I guess I'll just have to spray him with mosquito repellent and leave him out tonight.

noss,

That's funny because it's so familiar!

agrarian,

I have a little different problem with the rain where I live.  It skips us mostly, or we only get spitting rain here and there.  It goes all around us and it is so frustrating.  The clouds will go over us looking like doom and gloom and spit a few drops, but the majority of the rain falls in other places right around us.  It's been doing that for several years now.  Rain really is the best type of watering for plants.

Lately we have had a bit more rain, but not for long.  I thought we were getting a gully-washer earlier today because it was pouring down, for all of 10 minutes, if even that long.  I went to go out on the carport to watch it and drink in the smell of the ozone and the rain had stopped!

I wish we could get things to even out between all of us, but that's just a dream.
