I spent 3 hours last night reading through the various postings here. At least back to 2008. I didn't see any writing about Intermittent Mist for cutting propagation. 
I am setting up a system to root Softwood Blueberry cuttings next year. Will mist 20 seconds on every 10 minutes and do this from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  I was wondering if anyone has given a go at this type of propagation of fig cuttings?

The video won't load for me for some reason. It just stalls. Search the forum for the word 'Bubbler'. Check out a couple threads for variations on the same idea. Is that what you are trying to make?

The link isnt the problem. It's either this POS iPhone (Apple made it....) or YouTube isnt allowing me to queue the video. It isn't buffering and it acts the same on both wifi and 3G.

Did you check out those threads?

Yes I check the link you send on the bubbler. No that is not what I am trying to do. Not hydroponic. Although I have experimented with that on other types of plants. With this system you put the cuttings in sand. You have misting nozzles that put out a fine spray of water 20 second duration for every 10 minutes.  That cuts down on Transpiration and the cuttings don't die, what I had happening to me with trying to root my blueberry softwood cuttings. I haven't rooted any yet but will probably next year. Will definitely try and root my blueberries, Goji Berries and Blackberries this way. I thought if I have enough softwood, green wood, on the fig tree by then about May 5th or so-  might try that then using this system as well.

I forgot to speak to the Apple iPhone thing. I do game programming for a couple of games that run under Adobe Flash. If I told you the games you would probably in all likelihood recognize them. They are on Facebook. Anyway I can't use the iPhone or iPad to do any of the programming either. I have to use my Macbook Pro or my iMac Intel Duo to do any flash programming. So I do understand their not allowing you to see youtube on that platform.
I design in Photoshop the graphics and get them in proper formatting and then upload them through Adobe flash in the servers for the game. One of the servers for the game is setting next to me here so helps with some of the program experimentation prior to final upload and release into the wild.

Hey Mike
I have used mist to root cuttings for years it works very good for fig soft wood but is really not needed for wood that has hardened off at all.
I would recommend using 80/20 perlite and peat instead of sand even for blueberries unless you are going to do the blueberries in a bed and let them harden off for a year.
Sand was the standard method for years but studies show peat and perlite works better for most applications
10 seconds on every 10 minutes has worked better for me it keeps the media from getting too wet.
Those are just my experiences I do live in a different climate than you.
One more thing put a filter inline it will help to keep the misters clean and save you a lot of headaches.

I know in the video the fellow said 20 seconds on and 10 minutes off. I had mine programmed for 7 seconds on and 10 minutes off. Thanks for your input.

Mike,

I am also familiar with the misting system you are referring to. I have some of the equiptment to set up a mist system but have just never put it together. It's good to see that you have.

I know someone locally who grew three varieties of figs, using the mist system, for some years. He told me that this is the only way he grew cuttings. He used semi-soft summer cuttings & rooted them in sand with a high degree of success.

@Jim. It sounds like you're aware of a better media to use. I had not yet heard of using the perlite/peat media for rooting. I may have to try it if I ever get my system set up.

I'm going to check out your video Mike. Maybe I'll be inspired to get the lead out & set up my own system :) .

The peat /perlite mix is what nurseries use in this part of the country for almost all applications but course sand has been used with great success ever since mist systems were developed.
Get those systerms going guys it only takes about an hour to put together a good system

What I wonder is - If it would be too late in the season to try and root some blueberry cuttings using Intermittent misting. Should I wait until next year?

Only if there is still simisoft wood on your plants and you can keep them out of the harsh temps over winter a garage would work cold for dormancy but but not bitter cold.
