Is Danny's Delight and Desert King the same Fig? I'm noticing that the 2 share many similar qualities. Can anyone with both varieties chime in with a comparison?

Had Danny's Delight. Mine was a dark fig. Not at all like Desert King.

No they are not.

There are two Danny's Delight,
one green one dark.
Neither are DK

That's news to me about the different Danny's.
But then again there's Atreano and Atreano Gold- go figure!

The tag on my Lattarulla (Italian Honey) tree from Edible Landscaping also lists Danny's Delight as an alternative name. On their website, under Lattarulla, they say:
"King fig seems to be the same as Lattarulla. Also called Danny's Delight, this fig has ripened its fruit near Lake Michigan outside. Figs are large, pale green to yellow, sweet and delicious."  
They sent a fairly large tree with a number of ripening figs on it. The first was ripe on July 16, was pale green with a pink center and tasted mildly sweet with a slight hint of berries.
My Desert King tree (Dave Wilson Nursery origin) seems completely dead now, so I can't really compare. It couldn't take the heat here, must be a cold climate fig in spite of its name.

Sorry about your DK. Are you sure that was heat that killed it?
For some reason mine doesn't care about the heat much.
Also , a DK tree I found is growing in the open as well.

Igor, I don’t know what killed my DK. I planted a VdB from the same nursery at the same time in the same general location and it’s doing well. Two tree rose bushes have died in sequence in the same location as DK over the last eight years, but the landscape rose bushes around it are doing okay. When I saw DK was failing, I dug it up and put it in a five gallon container in half day shade. It leafed out again over several weeks, then suddenly, on a hot day, all the new growth wilted, and now the tree is dead. I don’t know if I dare put another tree in the original location.  It’s such a prime spot I hate to let it go to waste, but three fails in a row is discouraging.

Wow, sorry about that. So it seems the DK died not because of the sun but some other mystical reasons.
I think a seedling will do great there, it will take over your prime spot in no time :)

Ok, its been a little over a year now since this thread was started.  It really urks me when nurseries double up on names for figs.  So those folks who have this fig, Dan and a few others, did you get a second crop with your tree?  And when did the first crop ripen?

I have one that's about 3 years old.  I just got mine.  It will fruit next year.  I also have 4 monster Desert Kings fig trees that produce for me yearly.  I also have 4 or 5, 2 gallon size Danny's Delite from Almost Eden.  AE's DD is suppose to be the dark one.  I've seen pictures of Dan's Latturula from EL and it does  have a nice red center. It's a nice looking fig!   I'm just hoping EL's not Desert King!  I've been trying to find Latturla with a red center provided it truly is Latturula!

Lattarula (which may be the same as Italian Honey) has a yellow center.  But there's a fig named "Lattarola" (with an "o") that has a red center.

My Lattarulla/ Danny's Delight (Italian Honey) tree from Edible Landscaping gave a second crop of figs here. There is still a ripening fig on it.

Joe, I know all about Lattorola.  I have 4 of them!  LOL!  My other 4 Lattarula do have a yellow center and are super sweet!  Edible Landscape, aka EL, got it all wrong in my opinion!

Dennis -- OK, agreed.  The way you wrote, I thought you were taking the red center as confirmation.

Desert King will only have one crop without fig wasps for pollination.

Desert King is supposed to ripen, breba, @early August.

My first year plant did not ripen yet.

Some of these companies are forwarding bad information.

Stay away from Florida Hill Nursery. From "disease free tissue culture". What crap, ridiculously infected plants, garbage.

Hirt's too, what an ass the guy is. I questioned the basically dead, highly infected plants and he wanted a picture. Sent pictures of the dead plants and he said give them a couple months. Dead POS, do you think he would give the money back now?!  FN losers

A comparison of what I had that was labelled Desert King.    Not worth growing.  The Lattarula came from Edible Landscaping and is a really good Breba fig.    Yes, I did get some main crop figs to ripen, but they were terrible.  Normally, they fall off.
