Is it time to remove.....

I habe a HC that I have been airlayer in for 3 months. I just looked at it today. It has roots! Is it time to remove. I live in z7a so I want to give this sometime to harden for the winter. If it's time what's next. Also as you can see lower half has green can this be saved?

After 3 months it is probably as ready as it will get. The media may have dried out so the roots have quit growing. Cut it off and pot up. Protect from full sun until it can grow more roots. The bottom will probably send out new shoots yet this summer. It may need some extra babying to get it safely into dormancy but it should be fine.

Thanks. Off to the potting

Hi,
Time to pot up.
I can't see the top of the tree. You may want to cut the leaves in half and remove the fruits if there are any.
That's up to you, but I would do.
last week, I removed two AL and did the same: pot up in loam (I always use loam), put in full shade inside a bucket with 1/3'' / 1 cm of water for easy access to water, removed all fruits, shortened all leaves to half size (removed all fingers and left the "palm" of the leaves). I checked today, and both are doing fine - so far.
Don't forget to stake the tree, as the roots can't anchor the top for now. They need to grow more first and shaking in the wind may break the roots.
Good luck !

Just went out to check tree. Does not look good. Very wilted. I cut leaves in half. Removed all fig (now that hurt). It is in the shade. I just don't know what else to do. I am worried

You have to give it time!  I was the same way, just potted up an air layer and was all excited. The new tree immediately started to wilt and the lower leaves turned brown and started to fall off.  I was super worried, so I trimmed the worst looking leaves, placed it in the shade, and then left it alone.  A week or so later, it's perked up nicely, is showing new growth, and everything is looking nice!

I was not aware that there would be wilt. So it's in the shade and I will keep it watered.just thought I should send a pic

Id pull the figs and reduce all but 3 or 4 leaves per branch. Too much demand on the little root system that it has
..maybe even 2 or 3 leaves per branch. Good luck...

Now, seeing the picture of the size of the whole air-layer, there were very few roots to support that much vegetation. You probably should have left it on at least another month. But at this point, follow the advice to remove most of the leaves (they would likely fall off anyway). Keep it in shade and water it frequently (there aren't many roots to take up that water). Good luck!

Swell I hope it will make it. I will mist the leaves and water it every day maybe twice a day. Do I need to fertilize it with half strength fish fert3

It will be OK. Don't fertilize until it is growing again. Probably little or no fertilizer the rest of this yr. Not that some will probably hurt. That depends on your fall weather and how protected it is.

The airlayer was already on for three months. The only other thing you might have done would have been to stimulate more roots in the AL. That would have been by watering the AL media if it was all dried out.

I now have just a twig of a fig. I have it in the shade, under a tree and no leaves. How do I know if it will make it?

Leave in the shade and don't over water it. See if the main bud(s) will open over the next week or two.

I would bet that it will send out some new leaves. It's just stressed from the move.

Thanks for all the help and advice. I just don't want to loose this poor tree.

Follow the advice and keep doing what you're doing. It most likely will be fine. A few of mine dropped all their leaves too (even with more roots than yours). They bounced back after 2 or 3 weeks, and now have new growth and a bunch of new leaves.

Sounds good just disheartening
