I know it's not life or death to miss by a day, but I'm thinking my Desert King has a couple of ripe brebas on it. The figs are soft and drooping and getting some very small indentations. Would love to harvest them, but if anyone wants to venture an opinion, I'd be grateful.Inline image Inline image Inline image

I would try to squeeze off one more day. But on the other hand I would at least try one now. And if you are satisfied overall then go ahead knock the other two off. If not, then wait another day. At least these will be an experience for future harvest as to you will/should know how or when your DK ripens where you are at. Good luck

Thanks, Pattee. The figs are huge! Thanks, Rafed, I'm going to wait one more day and then will post a cut-in-half picture.

OK, I finally harvested my first ever homegrown fig a few days ago. It was a long awaited, exciting moment. Excellent flavor! Here's the treeInline image The figInline image The cross sectionInline image I took cuttings from my neighbor's tree last spring and to be honest, I don't know the variety. I'm guessing it is either a Lattarulla or Desert King. This is a breba. If the main crop ripens, I'll have to say Lattarulla. If the main crop doesn't ripen (or ripens just a few), then Desert King is more likely. I asked my neighbor if his tree had one crop or two, and he didn't know. OK, he's 75 and has never paid much attention to the tree, which someone gave him several years ago. Unless anyone can say without a doubt from the pictures that it is one or the other, I'll have to wait.

Rob, really nice looking paradise there with lots of room to expand your fig tree collection. Your perennial garden in bloom, coupled with the fig tree just looks fantastic. Enjoy your first figs!

Ah, OK, Daniel. It will remain a mystery until I see what happens with the main crop. And maybe it will still remain a mystery after that.
