Kadota in NJ

So my Kadotas have begun ripening and they have a hint of berry with a honey after taste. They're on the small size, but my tree is loaded with them.

Still waiting on my Black Mission, Mike's Main St. Purple and Paradiso to begin ripening. I'm about 2 weeks behind on them because our new puppy chewed the tips off of them at the end of April. The upside was that it caused the trees to have multiple branches. Getting worried on the ripening though.

Nick,
Maybe others can verify but I do not believe the fig in the picture is Kadota, looks closer to Celeste.

LOL! That's not Kadota!

Thanks Pete. I bought the tree from Bill's Figs in Flemington, NJ who is very well known here on the forum. It was labeled a Kadota. It's a green fig until the last day or two of ripening then gets somewhat yellow and then a brownish from what I figured was sugar content. Photo makes it seem more brown than it is.

Pete, when does a Celeste start to change color? Does my description sound like the behavior of a celeste? Celeste looks very purple to me which mine is not. I guess it's possible Bill had a mix up.

Nick, I have been to Bill's figs many times he is a good guy but mix ups happen all time. The fig in the picture is likely Celeste or Southern Brown Turkey. The color change depends a lot on the weather so its hard to say

I got 2 kadota fig trees from Willis Orchards they both produce brown fruit.I got another one from a different source hoping to get the right thing.

Willis Orchard and Aaron's nursery is bad for sending folks Celeste when they ordered something else. Kadota is a green fig that turns yellow when ropes with a deep rich honey flavor.

It looks like ypu have a Celeste.
Errors happen.
When did you purchase the tree ? Try and call the nursery, see if they replace her... unless you want to keep her.
Kadota is supposed to be the same as Pingo de Mel. PDM is all yellow-green on the outside and a bit bigger.

I bought it 2 years ago, but last year it didn't really ripen any fruit or it could have been because I picked them when they were yellow with only small brown spots, thinking they were rottening.

Kadota is not good for NJ,but yours semm ,not to be Kadota.?
