Hi all,

Just picked up a Kadota bare root, but after reviewing the personality of the plant in detail, I have second thoughts.

We only get 90 degree + weather in sunset Zone 23 (orange county) for 3 or 4 weeks out of the year, and I am worried about the Kadota not ripening in our mild medeteranean climate.

Any thoughts?

Some places, such as your the do OK and others no as well. Generally they seem to do better inland where temps are hotter, longer.

I was strongly thingking about adding Kadota to my collection but after reading several user reviews I dont think i am. in my climate i will rely mostly on breba crops and early ripe vareities.

I've not been impressed with Kadota - I don't like the thick skin and the taste I'd rank only a boring 5 or 6. But then my tree is young.

Sunset zone 24.

With Kadota you have to be patient, mine is a smash hit after 7 years. Early summer to mid summer the skin has that vanilla flavor  that is mixed with the honey syrup. Zone 7 in Cape May area, NJ.

I got cuttings/suckers from the most beautiful kadota in Seattle- despite the public opinion that they don't grow here, this tree is doing quite well. Owners report tons of figs enough to drop boxes at food bank.
