Lemon Fig

Dennis,

Thanks for the information on the Lemon fig tree in Ocracoke.  I will check it out when I visit my sister in a few weeks.

Tad

Dennis,
Nice pic.s
thx

DENNIS,

That looks like my fig, but you must wait till it is filly ripe (sugar spots, cracking, thin skin, etc.), then it will be a good fig...jam.

Good find, glad you are having a productive summer in NC.

Here is a pic of my lemon fig. Nice size, but not nearly as good as it looks. Very weak flavor. I dip it in sugar like a strawberry. I can see it being the "filler" in fig jam mixed with better tasting varieties. Tree is only two years old and very productive and precocious.

Bama fig,

Yet another strain of lemon?? I hope it turns out good for you when the tree matures.

update;
Well I was out picking figs last night as daytime picking is risky due to an amazingly huge number of very aggressive yellow jacket wasps. All my neighbors are being bullied out of gardens, off their decks, etc.
I have been stung on 7 occasions so far and I'm very careful.
Anyway I picked a Lemon fig and bite into it right away. I was very surprised as my beard was immediately soaked with a very wonderful syrupy type liquid. It was wonderful and unlike any Lemon fig I've had before. For the next 10 minutes my beard gave my wonderful hints of that fig.
It was one of the last figs on that tree.
As I mentioned above I removed 1/3 of the figs early and this fig was ripened late when there were few figs on what is usually a loaded tree.
I can almost still taste that fig.
Anyone about to dump a Lemon fig should remove 1/2 the figs and wait and see if that changes the figs enough to warrant keeping.

Thanks guys. I've decided to give this fig another try. This time, I will plant the tree in the ground. Today, I have 2 new Lemon trees.

My lemon fig has improved a lot this year. It produce large figs, and taste great once fully ripe. But it change shape from a round flat to a little bit tear-drop shape (see pictures). I believe it will be better taste if I transplant it to a sunny spot and fertilize it.
